WOW Romsey

Cross over flat track and motocross that bloody rough with the big holes and tree roots at the top corner by the end of the day

Only went 67/68 some things you never forget the SPEED  only for the brave or Wild men of the time

Most guys on here remember just how FAST these old bikes were

Cheers

Jeez Chris Kelly could ride. He once passed me half way down the straight at Nepean fully tipped in sideways for the speedway bend on his 360 Astro. He was faster sideways than I was at full speed flat out on my methanol 440 Maico! Considering that he was lapping me and I came in third gives you an idea of how much he dominated.

Hi Tam, welcome aboard. I was talking to your old man at Broadford last Easter.
You have to be patient around here. The pics are out there but they come in dribs and drabs. Sometimes we get a bit of a run going. There are 100's of pics on the Dirt Track Images site. Get John to have a look there. He will recognise heaps of people on the pics. Mostly '60's and '70's. Thanks must go to Sliderulz for that site,...around 80 pages and still going strong.
I actually have  a dvd with your old man racing at Temora NSW with Weazle as his passenger circa 1966/67. I think he gets 3rd place behind Harry Rowe and Dave Howard (winners) NSW titles I think. I can get copies done but they don't play on my DVD player but they might  on others.
  regards   Mark
ps It sure looks your dad from behind in the pits ;)

Welcome Tam, Has your Dad found a JAP sidecar to restore/ride yet? I have been working weekends for some time now and miss the meetings for such info. Cheers Tim754

Over here in WA  Ken George Yamaha had a Kerr frame built fitted with a TR3 Yamaha twin for Colin Thompson to ride at Claremont speedway around early 70s

Not allowed to use against the true solo bike. Rode it in the stock bike class 4 stroke and two stroke lot of Kerr frame specials

Only seen him ride it a few times bloody fast in a straight line with a 20ft roost out the back unridable in the corners just wild wheelspin

Wonder where that bike is now

Cheers

I was there that night, only a kid, can`t remember how old I was. That thing was a beast and very quick down the back straight. I also have a picture somewhere of Dean Taylor at bendigo on the TZ700 sidecar I think. The first sidecar to hit 100Mph down the back straight. When I raced my sidecar there #76 FZR1045cc a Police Officer was on the infield during practice and came into the pits and showed me the radar gun with 175 kph on it. I was chasing Andrew Cleave at the time. I always think back to Dean Taylor and think that I was only 15 kph faster some 20 years later.

That thing of Charlie's, with Booey on board , went past TD and I on our JAPs at Bendigo, like we were standing still, I will never forget the banshee wail of it as it went by.

I'm pretty sure that's Gary Flood on Charlie's bike in the pic
