cappra 414s
« on: August 29, 2012, 05:16:57 am »
Hi all been racing my cappra 414vg with the modern bikes a few times in the past few months alongside my 2011 suzuki rmz450 ie been doing 3 races on 414 and 3 races on rmz450 at the same meeting and my lap times made for some interesting reads mostly the 450rmz was quicker by a few seconds but as i have got more into the monty 414 (remember i rode these bikes in the 70s/80s) the tables turned and i was doing a 2 second a lap faster time on the monty than the rmz which suprised me and a lot of other people wierd or what.I must say the monty suspension was as good if not better in some parts as the rmz  in so much as i felt more confident throwing it into corners and off jumps also no head shake.

This weekend 26/27th audust we had a 80th reunion of the AMCA and they held a motocross event for all classes ie modern/enduro/classic/twinshock which i took 4 monty 414s down to it me on one my friends on the others must have been the most 414s at a meeting for years and created lots of interest unfortunatley the one that i had rushed to rebuild had carb problems which we could not sort out on the day a very enjoyable days racing.

Think i am going to keep riding the monty more.

Keep montys alive.

I dont have photos but my friends wife took some if i can get them off her i would love to post photos on this forum but i do not know how as i am useless with that sort of thing any ideas anyone?.

Mind you i will get moans about them as i have put mudguards on them from a more modern honda they dont look as good as the montesa ones but i can destroy them in racing and know that i can replace them with ones off the self, yes i do have some new old stock monty ones (not fiberglass)and those are put on for showing not racing.

Posting photos is reasonably easy once you do it the first time
Try this

4 x 414s on the grid regardless of front guards would be a great photo.

Still waiting for photos off friends wife if i cant put them on myself i will email them to you sandy.

Took two of the 414s to a classic meeting on sunday its the first true classic meeting i have been to in a very long time as i race the 414s alongside my modern bike at modern meets boy what a difference riding in the paddock/pits is allowed and the track was a good old school type one with wet long grass off camber hills and corners, to begin with i had forgotten how to ride wet long grass but after practice it dried out and became realy good some of the older bikes were fantastic to watch broadsiding around the corners methinks they were grass trackers as well.

Raced the 414s in the twinshock class and its been a long while since i have had them flat out in 4th and i could of done hooking up another gear thats how fast one of the straights was with a slight dogleg in it not one you wanted to come off on,had a DNF in the last race lost the spark got to strip it to investigate. The start was a good old fashioned piece of elastic needless to say cheating was rife ah the good old days.

At the  end of the day the track was not cut up to much not like a modern meeting which are as rough as hell at the end.
All in all a very enjoyable day look forward to the next one in the meentime back to the modern meets.
