XR600 or 400 ?

I'm looking at getting myself one of these to do a bit of trail riding on (very open)
Anyone have any experience with either of ?
Hop ups that work well?
Ect.

Go the 400, newer bike & lighter than the 600 by quite a bit

600/650 will pull redwood trees from the ground but a big and heavy bike as Tony has said.

I have had both. The 600 delivers most of its power right from idle to mid range which makes it a bit of a hand full on steep hills, all it wants to do is stand up on the back wheel with just the slightest turn of the throttle. Its a bit like a tractor..
The 400 delivers most of its power mid range to top end which makes it a dream on hills, even if you get into trouble half way up a hill and have to button off, you just hit the throttle and it will just keep climbing. They just love climbing hills.
The 400 is a lot lighter and slimmer than the 600.   In my opinion the 400 is the better bike by far.
They apparently had a slight problem with second gear which was rectified after the 2000 model... I have a 2001 which I have had from 2002 without one issue.

I have a 1985 600 great bike there is not a hill it wont go up a bit heavy but you will get used to it.

Had a 1996 400 and thought it was good enough to buy another in 1999 rode 600s as well, if riding tighter stuff 400, if riding desert either is good, 600 had a cough stall problem in tight bush when I was ridin one pain in the arse in a corner it would bog down slightly it would cough and stall 400 didnt have same problem seems to be plenty 400s around at a fair price 600s short on the ground.

I had a '03 400 lined up...perfect....till I started asking Q's about vin numbers and outstanding finance, and the deal turned to shit
So with cash burning a hole in my pocket, I walked past a rego'd KTM 250 exc 2t and took it....what was I thinking

thats what I have Brendon (ktm 250 2t), I love it, but im also a lover of singletrack - the motor will be pretty busy in the open stuff..300 kit??

What a bloody good idea Sean, I had a 250 sx before I left QLD and I always wanted to fit a 300 kit...torque monster.
