Converting Super 8 to DVD?

Can anyone on here recommend someplace here in Brisbane to get Super 8's professionally converted to DVD? 

I've got a few old Family movies I'd like to get done properly, but since I have about 3000ft of film, it's going to cost me somewhere around $1000 dollars to get PhotoContinental to do it ($16.50 per 50ft of film - although I may get a bulk rate for 3000ft)

If it ends up being that much, I may be better off buying a telecine unit from the US for $1150 (delivered).  At least then I could transfer movies for others as well I suppose...

There is another way to do it Tony.
They are projecting onto a white screen and filming with a modern video camera , saving to putor , burning from putor.
If you can get it to work instant DVD.

Hmmm, PhotoContinental's bulk rate for 2000-4000 feet of Super 8 to DVD is $14/50'...

So my 3000' comes back to $840...  Still bloody expensive, but getting better..

 My brother had our super8 put onto dvd and it cost $500. Be lucky to be an hours worth but its good. You could try the big screen and video just to see if the quality is good enough.

3000 feet of film should be about 3 hours...

50 feet = about 3 minutes viewing, so 3000 feet = 180 minutes...

Mostly family holiday stuff, but there's maybe 20 minutes of 1980 Queensland Enduros stuff, plus I'm pretty sure there's some other bike stuff mixed in somewhere...

Seems to be about 10 minutes of our old motorcycle club (QTRA) having a club weekend at Boonah in 1975, and another 10 minutes of a QTRA weekend at Boonah in 1977...

Are you able to connect your super 8 camera to the tv for viewing ?  if so there is a unit available that you can plug the camera into and capture all your footage straight to your pc, then you can burn to disc from your pc. I will dig out the unit and get the name for you, it was only around $160- $170 a few years back.  Peter.

are you able to connect your 8 player to your computer through an analog connection - bypass all the other units and go straight to hard drive?

Don't actually have a super 8 camera or projector....   :-(

Just have a whole heap of films....

 I see you're in Brisbane so not much good finding you one of my projectors  to lend you.
 If you check out a local garage sale or two odds are you will find a super 8 projector for peanuts, however if its older standard 8 it could be difficult to find one.
 You could then try the old 'project it on a bed sheet and get hold of a video camera' routine.
 Some of the places that record film on to DVD do a pretty crappy job of it so I would suggest that before you give 'em the lot, try them out with one small reel first.
 Generally if the film is a bit dark it comes out bad but good places can rectify that.[at a price.
