DISMANTLING SHOCKS

Is there a tool available that compresses the springs on your shocks or a special technique known only to those in the know? J

Made this spring compressor, works on my Ohlins on the Husky down to the TM 250 shocks. The trick is to make sure there is two pivot points so that the lever can work.

Can even adjust the preload on the bike.

If you want some dimensions contact me.

Thanks

Bob

Tyre lever across the top of a coil works for me.

Yep, me to, if youve got it, set the preload to the lightest setting, run a bar through the coil closest to the collar and push down, the colar should just drop out and off comes the spring(as long as your bump stop is out of the way)

Best to make sure there is a paramedic on hand in case your fingers become entangled in a coil

If you're that clumsy, you probably aren't suited to riding dirt bikes in the first place... :D

YEs but its so easy with  thses quick rigs, take 3 mins to make one.  I have tried screw drivers and levers and there a pain in the arse specially when you need a 2nd free hand to locate clips etc.  also had a slip spring and trap my fingers and had to wait 20 mins to find a neighbour to reload.  not fun.

Reckon your mental if you dont use one easy as piss to make and use.  I just have 2 bits of RHS with a bolt in it, and a plate welded on the end to catch the spring, was to lasy to finish it so shove the other end in the vice.

Still works one handed and EFFORTLESLY.....   its the best tool in the shed.  seem to use it all the time

this was how it was supposed to look, but i got lasy as i was in a rush and needed one urgent job and its just 2 bits of RHS square with a bolt but i will revist this someday and follow th eplan....  :-[

As GMC well knows I am a Paramedic.   Reckon it's a payback for my Elvis sighting post I started after Stan S put me up to it! Cheers Jerry and good luck to all going down to Harrow, wish I could be there.PPS thanks to all for your responses to my question. Let you know how I go.

Yes I probably do have too much time on my hands but this is my version. 360 degree rotation in three planes allows you to position the shock to drain or fill it and bleed out air.

Different adaptors are used for left and right hand springs and another for inserting or pulling out seal heads.

Ok feedback as promised. I used Freakys method. I wandered into the man cave and lo and behold there was a cople of bits of angle, a bit of 10mm allthread and I reckon 45 mins later she was built. Have to say it worked a treat and I got out of it with only one blood blister. Thankyou Freakshow I owe you a beer. cheers Jerry
