NAMUR BELGIUM
« on: July 13, 2012, 09:33:13 pm »
Watching the Tour De France the other night and I was interested to see there was a stage in Belgium. I then realised they were going to go through Namur. Whats the chances they might climb up to "The Citadel" I thought. Well bugger me thats exactly what they did including running through the flat area wherer the start of the MX races were. Got me thinking when was the last 500 cc race run there and do they use it for MX anymore or did the Greens put a stop to it. Jerry

yer 2007 was the last. 2006 Stefan Everts won his 10th world title there ,1990 Eric Geboers won his 5th.
Greenie on the city council are blamed but if you dig a bit deeper its not the only reason. The series promoter had some influence it seems.

I was there in Namur 2006 helping a mate race in the veteren cup, we walked the track early morning and its an amazing circuit,,big drop offs and a huge climb back up the hill. I chatted with Stefen Everts and was also lucky enough to get in with Team Suzuki and meet Sylvain, Eric and Joel, the Kid Kevin Strijbos gave me his race shirt on the day...It was an unforgetable weekend.

Geoff Den from South Africa,,,he raced and managed Team Suzuki SA so was good mates with Sylvain who supplied him factory spare race bikes, one of which i got to ride at Lommel on a test day...that was fun.

Good to have mates in the know !!!!!

Would have to be the "ultimate" place to have a Veterans cup or once a year challenge for twin shocks or the 50 years of Suzuki in motocross.
