How about a bit of fun....
« on: August 12, 2007, 11:36:10 am »
I can't help thinking how much fun the riding was at CD4 (even if I spent nearly all day Sat up to my arm-pits in electrics!). I mean an hour set aside to go and do a few laps, come in and tinker, do a couple more laps, do some play racing.....gangs of fun! Talk crap with a few guys you don't really know while the next lot are out there, eat, drink, be merry (not Mary! That's for you jap riders and you're Jazz Balet classes!). So much more fun than racing and heaps easier on the wallet and body.
I'd be up for a weekend of camping at a track and having two days riding without all the hassles of racing. I've no doubt it's been discussed before and I'm sure it'd be a great little earner for a club.
There's probably a hugh picture picture that I'm not seeing however I think it's something that could be become more prevelent and popular. I wouldn't mind being a part of something like it. Bit of a ride/swap meet/social thing. And before someone jumps all over me about starting another CD movement that's not what I'm getting at. No big names (they're of coarse welcome) or sponsors and stuff. Just a well advertised weekend at a motocross track with no modern stuff. Just let me know what you think would be the biggest obsticles. I'm sure there's people queing up to let me know.....
;D

Sounds like it has merit to me. Not evry week but may once a year in each state - begining of the riding season?? - a 'set up' and critque, chew the fat, drink piss,  'the older I get the faster I was'  bullsh*t week end .

A coulpe of 'techno gurus' on hand to guide and drum up business for them selves.

A nice setting for camping.

Food for thought. I like your thinking Ross. ;)

Yup that's my thinking Graeme. Just once a year in a different State. Wouldn't have to be a hugh affair and you'd wanna keep the costs low so as people aren't afraid of copping a big loss if no-one turns up (which I doubt). Even if the weather on the day didn't turn out to be real flash you can always just gas-bag, bench race, trade & meet up. Riding would be bonus.....

Nah. I'm not talking another Classic Dirt series........ I just mean if from time to time people could get hold of their local track to host a weekend of riding. Not racing. No massive table-tops. No big sponsorship, getting big-names in or massive publicity. Just a low key thing that hopefully clubs would do maybe once a year. It would probably have to be a non-sanctioned club (no one day license needed) or private land as most big clubs probably don't wanna know about things that aren't gunna bring the dollars in.

Ha!  You're not going to trick me THAT easily... ::)

Truth be known, nothing has been decided other than there will be a CD5 in 2008.  All other details are up in the air at present. :-\

When the details are decided and locked in, you all will undoubtedly be the first to know. 8)

Don't get me wrong 414, your idea is a great one and should happen in addition to CD5 ;)

Indeed in WA their "race" meetings are often unscored, i.e. races without results, to try and engender the fun aspect over serious racing.

There is no reason on earth why affiliated clubs shouldn't promote non-competitive Vintage dirt bike fun days, show'n'shines and swap meets.  I'm sure a lot of the older guys that just don't want the hassle of racing would flock to those types of meetings. ;D

But it probably does need to be done by affiliated clubs, because the risks a private individual or landowner would face from litigation without appropriate insurance would be very high. :(

Here's an idea - what about a vintage bike Poker Run? :)
