DT-1/RT-1 Fork Braces
« on: July 02, 2012, 01:15:55 pm »
Are the fork braces used on old Yamahas more for show than function?  Surely most of the flex comes from the spindly 34mm fork tubes and not the sliders.

By tying the sliders together for increased rigidity wouldn't that put more pressure on the fork tubes?  Do the 34mm tubes usually bend side to side or front to back?

I'm pretty sure the Webco/Circle Industries style fork braces don't make all that much difference but because the forks are basically fairly ordinary it can't hurt to have them. From my experience I don't think the 34mm forks flex all that more than the Euro 35mm items, the problem with them is more about poor dampening than flex which, seeing you've got emulators fitted, should now be a non issue.

I've got fork braces on my bikes purely for the early seventies vibe they bring ;D.

they move front to back.  I turn around my YZA forks and other 34mm Yams  90 degrees every so often, cause every 5- 10 races you can see they have started to slightly curve between the lower triple and the fork boot

How many rotations do you reckon; before they snap off! :)
