Help with a TY250a
« on: June 27, 2012, 03:08:17 pm »
Please I need help sourcing a piston, rings kit for my TY. A 70.75mm kit is needed and my mates in the industry cant find 1 in OZ. They suggested to go overseas. I have contacts in the UK but they cant do the 3rd O/S only 4th O/S as a kit.

That piston looks to be the same as the complete kit I got for my C model, from memory the cost was about $100us & postage was another 35 or so. I've noticed quite a few things listed lately with $150 postage for small parts.
All TY Yamahas are reed valved Freaky

I couldn't agree more...I get 90% of my new Yamaha parts from this crew. They're efficient and the prices are fair.

Any yamaha 250 piston kit up to 1978 will be good they all are the same except the non reed dt1 's   . So DT  , YZ  , MX  , IT   . You have a huge range to choose from including Wisco . Iain

Tony, Ive discovered I had a DT250(438) piston in the bike after all these 28 years! it was needing a hone and new rings, but I mistakenly ordered 434(TY250a) rings...but I didnt know then.
so I'll order a full piston/rings kit so it survives another 30 years!

Guess I'm lucky, mine is still on standard bore but the rings were worn enough that they left a light mark at the back off the bore, probably could get away with a set of rings & honing the bore but chose to bore to 1st oversize
Are the DT250(438) rings normal type rather than the L shaped top ring? The kit I got has the L top ring exactly the same as the original ty one
If you want the number of my kit I won't be able to get it for a week, flying over to Brisbane & the gold coast in the morning & heading home next saturday

let me get back to ya on that..I got rings from the US and they were different to the DT ones fitted. The piston and the 2 ring sets are at a mates place.

Remembered to grab piston kit to get numbers for you

Complete kit is 311-11630-10, pretty sure the last pair of numbers would become 30 for 3rd over
Piston is 311-11635 00(possibly wrong box) has 311 12 01 09 underneath, not sure what 3rd over would be
Rings are 311-11610-10, 3rd over probably finish with 30

Should help you broaden your search
