The Bighorn [beast] has arrived!
« on: June 26, 2012, 05:33:33 AM »
Hi All
Got this F5 Bighorn MX'er from AZ Mike last year. It's home in my garage now and I'm fettling it up to put on our offroad stand at the local Classic Bike show. Hopefully I'll get it started up sometime before the weekend. I think that snail pipe is going to be loud!

Last night my Dirt Bike CD's arrived!

DB did a series of articles in '71-'72 in which they modified a stock Bighorn, including replacing the frame with a Hindall frame and were able to shave over 60lbs off the stocker.  [I do believe that one Firko on this board has the very frame that DB used.......]

Tomorrow, just to see, I'll take the bathroom scale out and weigh my Bighorn - it still feels pretty heavy!

Went and weighed the Bighorn this AM.
Weighed in at 110kg dry [44% front, 56% rear]. In USA terms, that's 242 lbs. Taking a little scale innacuracy plus some fluids, you're most probably looking at 250lbs. That's not as light as the DB bike, but certainly not disgraceful.

BTW, I weighed in my '79 KLX 250 afterwards and it came in on exactly the same weight: 110kg [45% front, 55% rear]

I also weighed 3 frames and will post the results in the topic above.
