New Champions
« on: June 11, 2012, 09:25:10 am »
Qld can claim to have an Australian Champion sidecarcross team for the first time since 1957 if the record books are correct.
Jamie McMurdo and Wayne Hollaway riding the RT2 Wasp Yamaha 750 of Ron Chadwick have taken a clean sweep of the National titles held at Wyaralong circuit near Boonah in South East Qld.
The last Qld team to win such a title was the well known speedway outfit rider Ron Johnson, who won that title at the Amberley circuit in '57 riding a Vincent to beat his arch rival Sandy McRae the racing on a Triumph or so the reports say.
McMurdo and Hollaway showed too much skill and speed to cleansweep the 3 races and even left the line last in the final heat so they could film the race on their helmet cam, knowing they only had to complete that race to take the title. They did however make their way all the way to the front to clean up in fine fashion.
Congrats to all who made the trip and to those that didn't-too bad - you missed the best track in Australia-bar none-and a fantastic event all round.

Congrats to Jamie and Wayne. Also Ronnie chadwick for his fleet of bikes he supplied. What engine was in Ronnies bike that Jamie rode?

Wayne Hollaways std 750 motor was all they needed.
More to the point was that they had a very old chassis and crappy old shocks but still got the job done in grand style.
Their last - to - first run in the last heat was a thing to witness for sure. We held them out for as long as we could-about 30secs- before they flew by and chased Matt and Dave for the win. And, hopefully they got it all on head-cam.

Very good finishing record really Yungy, it was the riders that let the bikes down in most cases :D

It was great to see the outfits bellowing again.
The huge dirt roost off the leader's(?) tyre going around the last left hander before the finish on sunday arvo was awesome to watch.
The crowds love it!

Bully-Mac, take a look on VMXShotz and there you will see a sequence of photos showing what a roost can be off an outfit-it completely obscures the following sidecar before it then emerges from the mirk. All good stuff.

Definitely agree, what a great event.

Wasp, what are the studs made out of in the GRM engines? Are the std. ones long enough or do they need to be replaced with longer ones due to the spacer?
Whats the damage inside did it ruin the read or barrels?
