1979 250 Elsinore
« on: May 15, 2012, 06:59:35 am »
What you reckon a 1979 250 Elsinore would be worth? It's been used for between 5-10 hours and that's it. Needless to say the bike is in great condition.

Cheers!

P.S

Now instead of trying to find the bike which you propably won't, unless you speak swedish and are acustomed to swedish website www.blocket.se, please gimme a "guesstimation". I saw within how people started freneticaly searching the internet for Honda ads wondering if they missed something :-D

Are you selling or buying?   ;)

Are we talking about a 1979 CR250RZ with title and the little feelers still on the stock tires?  No dents, scratches or tears and all the stickers still on it?  How about the bars, grips and levers, are they in perfect factory condition?  Are the fork boots and front number plate still there and in great shape?  Do the foot-pegs and shifter show any wear?  Perfect pipe and silencer?

I bought my 78 for $1200 US, but it was only in nice restorable shape (everything there, running and titled), far from perfect.  I have a very nice 79 with all the Fox Factory parts (swingarm, shox, forx and aluminum brackets) that I would not sell for less than $6000.  A near perfect, original (complete) CR250RZ could be worth $5K.  Honda sold so many of them that putting a value on them is harder than some other bikes.  Although 73-74 CR250M's in showroom condition and restored 81 Maico 490's sell well.

We have no pics, so it is hard to determine the worth of the bike you have or are trying to purchase.  ???

Best I can do is direct you straight to the ad. Poor picture quality, can't for instance tell wheater it's on the original rubbers or not. The rest looks stock to me but I'm not really that good at figureing those things out.

I'm not selling, not buying, got my shed full of junk :-D just curious whether it's an ok price. Not that often you find a late seventies bike with that low hours on it.

here's the ad: http://www.blocket.se/ostergotland/Honda_250_Elsinore__79_40389301.htm?ca=23_8&w=3
seller asking 35 000 SEK which equals to 4 723,92 AUD.

Same guy is also selling this supposedly factory yamaha 360 1974 and is asking 70 000 SEK = 9 447,84 AUD which I find... quite on the high side? Ad here: http://www.blocket.se/ostergotland/Yamaha_360__74_40389043.htm?ca=23_8&w=3

That is a nice, restorable RZ.   :)

My '78 looked similar, but did not have the sprocket cover, front number plate, stock handlebars or stock silencer.  Mine did have the fork boots though.  Bid accordingly (whatever $1800 US converts to).  If you've always wanted one that would be a nice bike to have.

Hi Jens,
It is difficult to tell from that photo. It seems the front and rear plastics will need replacing and I am sure you know that if the tyres are original and you want to ride it, they will probably be hardened and have to go immediately too. I got caught buying a 78CR250 from photos which seem to compliment the bike usually. Not sure where you are but in Aus that bike if it is in fairly good shape as this one seems to be, I think it would bring something between AUD3.5-4K unrestored. Spend another 1K+ on it and you have a race bike. I have one of these and it is a fantastic bike, a classic from that era.

Having another look, maybe more like 4K, maybe more. It is very original. Good luck.
BTW, if you need someone to ship it for you, I know a reliable guy.

Jens, depending on what you want to pay, where you are relative to the bike and how much you like Honda's? or if you are looking to make money out of it.

I have 2 off these bikes and I have done resto jobs on both and they would owe me around 5K (3K for bikes and 2 K for resto) each complete with Fox shocks (photo below has Ohlins on it).

Now if that bike was in Australia and I could view it and confirm the limit hours from new I would be prepared to pay 6+ for it as everthing is low hour. The plastic can be painted so you will not need to purchase new ones. The good thing about these low hour bikes is everything is still fresh but would just need a good clean up and paint and a fresh set of spokes for the wheels.

I do all my own work and could have this bike looking like new for less than 400 bucks.

Good luck with it, bikes this good don't come up to often.

Thank´s for all the good input!

As I was saying before I´m not buying, can't say I'm not interested cause that would be a lie :-D. Just can't afford it with a shed full of junk (2* unrestored Curtis Hondas, 1* unrestored 1979 Honda CR125 in crates, 1 Suzuki DRM project etc...) and the shed doesn't look to good either :-) Just interested in what the bike would be worth since it's really unusual finding one with that low hours, especially other brands than Husqvarna.

Gaaah, I kind of want that bike don't I!?!?

Take care folks  ;)
