Great stuff.. Yeah i saw you Firko! Most of the sports legends from the 70's are in that one.
Saddleback was still going in the 80's, who could forgey the infamous ramming battle between Hannah & Howerton in '81..!
BTW there's a lot more than 1 jump on Saddleback  :)

You're right John, Saddleback actually closed in '84 but by then its better days were behind it. I remember that there were a shitloads of lawsuits over accidents that eventually caused the operators to bail out.

I loved the place..it was a bit of a dusty shit hole but when I look back so were Indian Dunes and Carlsbad. On any weekend at Saddleback or the Dunes hundreds of riders would be seen cutting lap after lap so you can imagine the condition of the place. I even raced there a couple of times, but on the shorter Shadow Glen track. It and the GP track always bumpy and rutted, even for the big races.

It looks like Marty Smith and possibly Hanna riding back to the pits helmetless. It looks like most of the video is filmed in practice

I'm jealous Firko, would love to have been stateside in the 70's/'80's.
I think you'll find the helmet less riders are on a parade lap, even decoster is amongst them..

Yeah John it was a great time to be there as a motocross fan. I lived there from '75-80 and I reckon those years were the golden years of American motocross. They were just emerging as a threat to the Euros and there were more dead set legends from that era than any other.

A golden era for sure! You would've been able to see all the top Euros as well...

I love this video!  I modeled my current Pre-78 YZ400 after Bob Hannah's '76 Trans-AMA bike.  It appears at around 2:15

Just the liquid one in the first 10 seconds of flick... :P
Don't see sweet mid size jumps like that one around :) Just lipped up jumps that catapultes the bike and rider 100m plus onward.
