Can Am/SWM 6 speed box needed
« on: May 10, 2012, 08:52:24 am »
Hi all,
Riding my SWM at the Kenda Rally I realised that the 5 speed (long story short - it's Laurie Smith's bike from the 1979 ISDT with a 'factory fitted' T'n'T motor) just doesn't work with the GP rotary disc cut I inflicted on it. Does anyone have a complete 6 speed box for sale? How about a stock T'n'T rotary valve?

Don't worry Geoff, Drakies made a point of you being the ONLY one to re-fabricate his frame AND make a centrestand for him. He said that no-one else will get the work 'cause you're a mate,so you will have all his work. Made a point of saying that several times actually........ ;D

No it's a 5sp tnt motor in a SWM frame.  I thought it hauled, maybe a bit to much?

I have some SWM discs But I'm not sure what they fit.

Cheers
Noel

I thought it hauled too, I wouldn't say too much but it would be brilliant with a touch more bottom end.

Sorry about the delay guys, I've been incomunicado at Blackwood.
Murray, I might have a spare Super Pioneer motor which Alron used in their bikes, the head cutaway for the fins takes a stock SP pipe which Ron Lyon used too. I'm dead keen to get your SWM motor but am I fiddling a bit too much with the history of the bike? The factory did install the T'n'T motor but the original was a genuine SWM. Decisions, decisions....
Now, I admit to being a bit keen with the tinsnips but the devil in me (and the memory of Norm Watts' bike and Gunny's bike) made me go the GP cutout PK used in Gary Jones' bike which hauled.
I'm yet to check out the flywheel weights but want to leave the pipe stock for the appearance.
Thanks for all the helpfull suggestions guys, I know I'll get it right soon.
I had a ball at the Kenda Rally on it. After the all the dumb incomprehension of 'What is it?' I had it sound tested by the DSE at 93.8db @ 5000 rpm, under the latest FIM/MA/DSE 94 level. Cool. Revised suspension worked a treat and while I took a hammering from the rough, rocky and rutted course (fast too) only my hands were sore from clutch and front brake pull. Surprised a lot of riders on the downhills and caught all the guys who blasted past me on the roads in the tighter stuff; sweet. 158 ks and I only lost 2 bolts, one made the front KTM guard wave madly but it didn't break.

I don't think it would be that wise for the motor internals to be from the same components as the riders brain.

I am being forced to type this by Drakie who's dictating this diatribe whilst he holds a gun to my head.........

Morris! Why don't you get off the computer and do some useful work instead of bitching and moaning about your favourite customer!
