Hi Kenneth,
Had the same problem with my 84 500 honda.
Looked everywhere for a linkage kit on ebay and at the local honda dealer but was
told the same thing NLA (no longer available) so i took the whole setup to a local fitter machinist shop..
But there is a cheaper way out of it, apparently the 81 model 450 linkage bearings are the same
and fit straight in and this could be the same as your model as well ...
Check first though with your local honda dealer !!!

All Balls make a kit for '83/'84 (covers several others from '82-'84 I think)
http://www.allballsracing.com/28-1142.html
Australian distributor is
[email protected]
Carl may be able to help?

Les at VMX Unlimited has the kit above on his WEB site probably in stock give him a ring or order on line. Les is a top guy.

They run bushes not bearings,so you wont find an All Balls Kit for them, what Andrew vmx suggested is the only option as genuine replacement bushes are hard to come by as well,

It's not until 85 that they started using bearings,

Sorta makes the 250 L that little more desirable in the Pre 85 250 stakes doesn't it.....? ;)

What Garry (Number 8) said is correct. you can only get the swing arm pivot bearings from all balls and the link which has the main "C" link and the rising link arm have bushes in them.

If they are not to flogged out you can get them to ream out the links (they wear oval) and then have new bushes machined to suit. Is not to hard of a job, make sure they use only mild steel otherwise you will wear out the main link arm bushes and these are harder to replace.

I have done several of them and it is not to hard of a job. Best to get another set from E Bay as spars and rotate them from time to time. Best to use a salt water type grease as this lasts a little longer. The 82 links are not the same as the 84 links so do not use any other link than an 84. 125,250 and 500 are all the same.

I have not yet looked at replacing with roller bearings but if I can I will post results.

Oops sorry guys made a typo mistake last nite, they are bushes not bearings  :)
Heaven number 7 rider Robbo and i had this same conversation
at last years vintage mr mx meet at raymond terrace where we were talking
about all the hard to get parts for our 84 cr500s.
He had the same problem with his linkage bushes (all worn out)
Told me he used 81 CR450 honda linkage bushes ..
Seemed to work ok for him finished 5th overall last year in SA aussie titles.

Andrew VMX that may well be the case (your mate finishing 5th in the Aussie titles) but what the hell does that to do with linkage parts?

I would assume that 450 parts will be somewhat harder to get than 500 parts and as the way of Honda, if they are the same they use carry over part numbers so if they are still available for 450 then they would still be available for 500.

The issue of the bushes is really a know brainer, if you have basic mechanical ability you will be able to make the bushes with little problem. most people know someone with a lave and this and a couple of drill bits is all you need.
