RM125 Footpegs
« on: April 19, 2012, 11:29:37 am »
Hi.  I ned new footpegs for my 81 RM125 and was looking on ebay.  Judging by the pictures placed with the ads they seem to be the same right up until the late 80's at least.  In fact they look the same from 1979 right through until then.

Does anyone know if this is correct before I buy a set, ship them out and then find they don't fit?

Thanks
Craig

Yup they are all pretty much the same, later ones had a little better bracing on the kick start side. I fitted some to my TM and DR no probs

Just curious as Im tidy up a 250z. I havent reasearched yet but I believe later model pegs fit but have a bigger "pin" going through the frame so only a larger hole needs to be drilled.

Yup, they went from 8mm to 10mm pin but later pegs will still fit once drilled out ;D

Brilliant info, do you know what year the pin hole went up in size?

Check Alpha sports etc for progressive models until you see a part number change for the pin and I think you will have it.

Be careful, I know of a couple Suzook’s where the owner drilled the frame mount out larger to accept the large OD pin and the lack of material on the bracket saw the peg rip out of the mount at the most inopportune time. I've added a washer on either side of the frame mount and tigg'd it into place on some of my bikes where I’ve used larger more modern pegs to ensure that this doesn’t occur at the time you land off a jump. To be honest, grind the 30 year old bracket off the frame, go down to your Honda dealer and buy the frame brackets and hardware off a CR250F, weld them onto the frame and buy some aftermarket pegs off e-bay. It’s by far the most reliable and safest option available and reasonably cheap.

I’ve missed our Suzuki footpeg discussions ;D

The TM’s had the same footpeg mounts as the early eighties pegs but the first RM’s had a different style mount.
I think 79 was the year they changed back to the early style and kept it until at least 86 that I know of.
