After the first ride, forks too stiff so some tuning there and maybe a tad too much go. Need to smooth the power a little, but overall very happy. It won the beauty contest on the weekend, so that's good too.

God's way of saying "Leave the Yamaha front ends alone".
I'd take it off before he gets pissed and makes it smack you into the earth....... :'(

Forks will be soughted no problems Rosco. God wanted them to go to the tip with the rest of the bike, so I guess they're the lucky one's. The bike is actually an '82 model just done in '83 colors.

Four speed is good although 1st is pretty tall. Settled on 12/53 final gearing, which suits me better. Still makes warp speed in the top end. I need to tame it though. It hits hard in the mid range and just hangs wheelies which is fun, but it's hard to ride fast (for me anyway).

Really nice bike!
What ignition system you use? Internal rotor or external? Changed from standard Motoplat internal rotor system to Sem external system on my -82 CR488 and that was a true revelation. Before the change the bike behaved like a 125 on steroids. The bike pulled from really low rpms after the change. Furthermore I installed a copper basegasket to lower the compression some (can't remember thickness of gasket though) and that made the bike really smooth and very predictable when giving throttle. I believe the 430 would respond similar to those changes. Biggest improvement was the ignition system with external rotor for better spark on low revs.
Those changes made atleast me alot faster around the track...
sincerly

Please tell me about the bar clamps.
What have you used there ?
Husky part or aftermarket ?
Seem to be straight up as opposed to angled.
I am battling with getting the bar position right.
Almost there...

The bike has an XC (large flywheel) igntion fitted, still toey but shouldn't be too hard to sort. The bar clamps are upright earlier Husky ones. Definately feels better than the lay back style and gives more room, steers better. I'm using them on both the '82 & '77 bikes. I doubt I would go back to the layback style.
