Price of big 2 stroke engines
« on: March 30, 2012, 12:41:48 pm »
Man, 500cc 2 stroke engines seem to be a bit like that Real estate line about land.... 'that they aern't making any more'.

If you have a CR500 or KX 500 donk seems the sky is the limit at the moment as everyone needs them for go cart engines. 1/2 the open class VMX bikes are probably worth more if you sell the engine seperately.

Prices are down from when I was looking a couple of years ago. The KX motors were all $1800++ then.

How are the prices of the 700+cc single two strokes they make for MX sidecars going?

wow bet the price of big Mahle piston comes as a shock to Imtimidator owners, bit like the price of tyres to Holden Clubsport owners, which used to be $800 each..

A few new HSV and FoMoCo v8s are crapping themselves when it's time to do their brakes as well. Up to $2500.00 to overhaul!!

Range Rover Sport tyres were $1200 each (maybe $1600?) which put the wind up a lot of owners, particularly when they were picked up during servicing and had to be replaced with the right ones to maintain the warranty...
No alternative because the combination of size, load rating, and speed rating was unique.

Making things much harder than they actualy are.
1. Get CR 500 bottom end
2. Add the Liger cylinder

3. Hold on.

Don't write them off Walter, with a longer rod and +2mm stroke they pump out a VERY wide band with about 90hp at peak. They are usualy used in ATV's and quads on the sand , would think they could work very well in a sidecar.

$2300 Euro is not bad ... later model CR500 engines seem to be picking up $3000 USD.....

my 2008 CRF450 rolling chassis owes less than $1000 with all new plastics, tyres etc.....Add another $2300 plus freight and you have something pretty extreme for entertaining price.
