YZ490 or IT490?

Not a Yamaha expert (or an expert on any bike for that matter) but is this bike an IT not a YZ as advertised?

Rear frame loop says IT.
Better pics of airbox, LHS peg mount ( looking for the side stand mount, in particular) would be a big help.

Front end is wrong for both IT and YZ (might be early~mid 80s KX or late 80s KDX).

I'd definitely be asking for frame and engine numbers...

Thanks Nathan ... I saw the rear frame loop and that is what made me ask the question however did not know about the other items you mentioned.

Also how you can tell the front end isn't even Yamaha let alone identify it as maybe mid 80's Kawasaki has got me buggered ... and from a crappy blurry picture like that one .. wow, impressive  ;D

Single piston caliper, solid disc rotor (hard to say for sure), 43mm forks (presumably) pretty much has to be Kawi.

Hmm, the plot thickens.  Engine number is 23X-000463 so definately 1983 YZ490 engine but the chassis number has been "changed" and the reason it has been "changed" is the same reason the rear frame loop has been welded on.  Because it's been registered in Victoria before and it still has rego sticker to prove it.  ALso has a complaince plate fitted however the numbers have worn off (as they do) and he can't see what it was.

He says the VIN is 3Y4 acording to the rego sticker but the frame has only a half readable number .. I think 3Y4 is an XT250?

sounds like the frame nunber has been restamped to get past the rego boys for easy and cheap 250 rego
