1980 KDX250 A1 (twinshock)
« on: March 09, 2012, 03:55:32 am »
Hello,
Is that this model was imported in Australia ?
I don't think that it was imported in Europe, may be in England ?
I'm looking for photos and documents on this model.
Cheers.

It got best enduro bike of 1980 in one of the USA mags, Said it was better in the woods than the 400 and that the unitrak suspension of the 175 wasn't any advantage. Not surprising since unitrak had a falling rate from what I've read.

No, Australia didn't get a kdx 250 until about 1983 for one year, then nothing until the perimeter frame / wcooled version.

Hello cloggy,

Thank you for your answer.

If you have this magazine, and if you have the opportunity to scan the report when you have a free moment, I would like well able to read this report.

Cheers.

Hello evo550,

Thank you for your answer.

I would like buy one in Italy (imported from the US), but this bike has not the US TITLE, and it has never been imported in France, I don't know if I will be able to register it in France, even with a French TITLE of collection.

Cheers.

The aircooled Australian KDX250's  started in 1983 and finished with the 1985 model. These were all identical except for stickers and seat colour. Easy way to tell models is
1983 Black seat with 250 written in green. KDX sticker on side plates.
1984 Black seat with KDX written in white. 250 sticker on side plates.
1985 Blue seat with KDX written in white. 250 sticker on side plates.
Each model also had slightly different tank stickers. No mechanical differences at all.
Cheers, Grahame

Hello Grahame,

Thank you for your answer.

I think that this twinshoch model was distributed only in the USA, may also be in the Canada ???

In France only these models to start
                           1981 KLX250
                           1981 KDX175
                           1981 KDX420

Cheers.

You can register the bike for France on the road.
You get a friend in Britain to register it. Then you return it  to France. Don't laugh, it's done more often than you imagine!
I am getting a  scanner  next week; then I will look for the article. UK got the klx,  and  the 175 I think.
The 400 kdx the 250 kdx and the klx all got the same swingarm, and headlight
http://www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki-1980-kdx250-a1-kdx250_model15185/partslist/
says it is a one year only model. 1981 went Unitrak but  the engine may be the same. You can compare at www.cmsnl.com/kawasaki
Perhaps it was sold in Holland?

Thank you for the idea, but to make that, this model (1980 KDX250 A1) must have been imported in England, and I have to bring the bike in England ?

No the model doesn't need to be originally imported to the UK
We just buy a bike on Ebay from any country, get a dating certificate [from  a club or expert that the government trust]
Get it checked for road worthiness and take the combined paperwork and bike to a government centre where they give us a road plate
In the UK you can even get a daytime only test with no lights and still ride on the roads
We aren't strangled by rules like Australia or France!

Thank you cloggy for these information.
There is a person on " Le Guide Vert " who spoke vaguely in this way of proceeding, he has to make it for a CAN-AM, I'm going to contact him.
What annoys me a little, it's that I must send the bike to England, that makes some more of additional costs.
Otherwise, I've the solution to run with a Title of a 1981 KLX250, a person suggested me selling me one, I haven't the right to make that, but I shall take the left !!!LOL!!!

We have to pay a fee of maybe 70 euros [This charge may be less] to get an "expert" date the bike and we have to get it   [indicators not needed for this old a bike] passed at a test centre for the normal yearly MOT to make sure it is safe. Then we have to pay the gov dept DVLA centre to check the bike against the photos that were sent to the "expert" to make sure it's the same bike, and also check the numbers on the engine and frame to make sure it is not stolen. If it doesn't come up as stolen on their computor records they then issue [give] a registration numberplate, of the correct year if possible.
That's it, it's now road legal.   A very good system. Then it can go to France!
