Hi everyone i,m new to this forum but have had a good look at the posts and thought there is a lot of people on here who knows their stuff so I thought I better join up for some help.

I bought a 414 vf (In a very sad state!!) I have stripped it down and started rebuilding it. I will try and post some pics up of what the poor old girl was like when I bought it to what it is like now. The things I could do with knowing is has anyone a link to a place that sells NOS tail pipe for the bike and also the sells a cage for the air filter. The other thing i,m stuck on is what connects the rear break pedal to the plastic cord to the rear brake?? And on the exhaust at the rear where the tail pipe would conect there is a bracket what should this connect to (if anything)??

Any help you lads could give would be good and maybe I might get this bike finished this year lol

Now after getting the frame powder coated the old girl is ready for her make over  :)



And fitting the motor after re building it and giving it a new coat of paint she is starting to take shape  :)

This is what i,m not sure is right. What should the bracket fasten to on the top of the exhaust??




I have loads of pics of the bike step by step as i,ve rebuild it, so if there is anything you would like to see please let me know and I will do my best to post them up for you. I will get some pics taken of the other things i,m not sure about.

lol tell me about it mate lol It has taken me about a year to get it to this state so far  :-\ I need to get the wheels re built and get a tail pipe and filter cage then i,m somewhere near finishing her. I will try and post some more pics up of the build later. Any feed back to what you lot think would be good even if you think i,ve done something wrong, I would like to get her to as origianl as poss so any feed back you have would be good  :) Also if anyone knows where I can get some NOS parts for it would not go a miss.

You are doing a great job 8) They are a very much under estimated bike for EVO.

The rear mount of the exhaust that you can see on top of the stinger section above the airbox (last photo) attaches via a rubber mount to a bracket on the frame. The bracket appears to be missing on your bike. It is located on the right hand top rail about 20mm behind the cross tube. I will get some photos of my VG which is the same for you. The bracket has a tendency to crack if the exhaust is not mounted correctly or the head steady is loose causing bad vibration.

The rear silencer is available as a reproduction. The last one I purchased came through John at Rocky Mountain Montesa. There are three size silencers you need the longest one. The 250/360/414 reproduction silencers fit 250s as well as the big bores you just trim the last 20mm or so off which has a reducer to fit the smaller and shorter 250 chamber. They are good quality.

The link that connects the brake pedal to the brake cable/rod is a piece of flat metal about 18mm x 3mm bent into a work of art that passes behind the frame and under the swingarm. A photo is the only way to show you so will try to get one ASAP. Not sure if Jared from South West Montesa or John from RM Montesa can help. If you contact them I'm sure they would have a new one or possibly a used one.

Hi Simon nice to see another monty being brought back to life pics are great just wish i could post some of my pics on here but no good with computers (takes me ages to type anything) where about are you in the UK just an area will do(too many thieves about nowadays i have already had a 250VB nicked last year) the 414vf is one bike i have not got as most of mine are the 414vg model.The exhaust should bolt onto a bracket on the frame opposite the air box bracket pm me with your phone number if you want and i will call you to see if i can offer any help.I am still riding one of my 414vg's occasionally  going back to original is sometimes impossible but the best of luke.

Hi montman I,m from the north east mate ;)  I will message you my number and e-mail address then if I get stuck you can give me a bell  ;D I would love to find a 125 and 250 vf to get the full collection but I think the wife will go nuts lol one day thou lol

I have a couple of the 250 vf's both to be restored there seem to be less about than the 414's even though more were made,the 125,s are very rare i have been after one for ages although i do have a 125 enduro monty that's as near as i can get at the moment still keep looking.

Montynut in the UK they are classed in the twinshocks the evo class is a faster class due to the bike improvements even though i race mine against the up to date bikes at modern moto events.

Top job Simon ;). I have one as well (I did have three up untill last year ::)). These things are pretty rare and it's good to see you bringing one back from the edge. One of the nicest bikes to fly through the air on :).

VF250 frame same as 414 but pipe is slightly different. The mount that is missing on your bike can be seen and how the pipe mounts
