Nice bike are there any in Australia being used at trial meetings, I am looking getting into trials, but would like the observe section trial
like to good olds no rock hoppin, long section weeving in and out of tree and creek beds.

Here's a shot of my hand built Maico 250 trials bike. It was built by an unknown genius in the Tamworth area back in the late seventies but other than that and some of the engine specs, I know very little of its history. Just about every part of the original 1974 MC250 motocrosser has been modified including the trans being fitted with hand made trials ratio gears, revamped final drive ratio, lowered compression with a modified squish, Yamaha reed valve, 24mm Mikuni, highly modified frame and much, much more. Although I'm no Dougie Lampkin, I reckon the bike performs beautifully and other trials riding friends have commented that the bike feels just right and the motor just kept on keeping on . John Boag rode it at CD7 and reckoned it's a ripper. I've still got a bit of detail work and sorting to do and when it's right I'll offer it to a seasoned twin shock competitor to offer up some feedback.

Firko I could see the Maico fork legs with such a large underhang being a real problem as they would snag on rocks etc very easily. The front brake arm on the hub would also have the same or probably more of a problem.

Overal a pretty good job but it does bring to mind a one word question. WHY? . I really don't need a reason as it is not important because it was obviously taken on and completed by someone with real passion for the project.

Have another read Dave. He not only "changed the gearing", he made a completely new gearbox, clutch and final drive.

Dave...the bloke who built it turned a common and to be honest, pretty ordinary motocross model into a really decent trials bike but above all he has displayed some amazing engineering expertise in doing it. This is a seriously thought out piece of trials iron, not a quickly knocked up "sorta" trials bike.

Mark, I take my hat off to the fellow, was it any good as a trial bike, do Husqvrarna, KTM, Maico ever contested the world seen in trials.
