G'Day all,

As you might guess from the login name, my name is Colin, commonly CJ and I am a bit of a 500 Yamaha nut, but don't hold that against me.

Like many I have kept an eye on this forum for a while and finally gotten around to joining. I have joined this forum to have some were to find some help, information and general encouragement for some of the projects that live in my shed.

I am like many, of a certain age (born 1958), and started to ride dirt bikes in the early 70's and progressed to racing motocross and enduros in the late 70's and early 80's, along with riding observed trials. A Yamaha IT250D was my first real enduro bike after competing for a few years on modified trail bikes (RT1/2 Yamaha) and a 650 Triumph! I eventually progressed to riding a 390AMX Husky in 1978, which I had road registered for enduros and also rode motocross on. In the early 80's I fitted a SR500 Yamaha engine and YZ forks into the Husky frame and rode this in MX and enduro events for a couple of years, before giving up on serious competition. The last enduro I rode was in the mid 80's and on an early 70's Yamaha AG175.

I still own the Husky, which is currently stored in a collection of boxes, and is one of about 33 bike that currently reside in my shed. The old dirt bikes in the collection are;

1976 YAMAHA TT500C - restored
1976 YAMAHA XT500C - unrestore, my daily ride to work, to be restored later this year
1976 YAMAHA XT500C - in the process of being converted into a Supermotad
1976 YAMAHA XT500C - in process of being built up as a VMX/Vinduro bike
1977 YAMAHA TT500D - fitted with a sidecar, currently in bits
1978 YAMAHA TT500E - parts bike for the above
1978 Husky framed SR500 engine (please DON'T call it a HL!)
1971/2? SL125 Honda in original but poor condition for restoration one day
1973? RV125 Suzuki in average original condition
1978 350 Bultaco Sherpa (observed trials sidecar)
1979 350 Boltaco Sherpa
1976 TL125 Honda
1975 KT250 Kawasaki (my first bike) very much the worst for wear going to restore it one day
The remains of 2 RT360 Yamaha that I want to make one VMX bike out of (these are the same bikes that I used to ride enduros on 30 years ago)

The rest of the collection are road bikes, including 4 SR500's, one of which has been built to run in the DLRA speed trials at Lake Gardiner if the lake ever dries out.

Thanks for your time,
CJ
Why do things the easy way, when with a bit of effort you can really make it difficult for yourself!!

Welcome aboard Colin,

Good to see another XT/TT nut. And that TL250, I had one of those once, loved that bike!

The older I get, the faster I was

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.
