'81 RM465X Resto
« on: February 09, 2012, 11:55:38 am »
Been working on this for quite a while. Found it out at the Wellington Swap Meet a couple of years ago for $350. A mate of mine bought it, and after some wheelin' and dealin', it came to live with me.

Many new and NOS parts later and a fair amount of $$$$:

It now looks like this. Here it is in it's new home, never to see dirt again (while I own it anyway). Was never going to be a nut and bolt NOS resto, as it has many 465Z parts on it and a 500D twinn leader front end. It has come up better than expected. When this weather gets better I will take it out for some nice sunny day shots.

I got some bits from a couple of members on here as well as some top guys on Marks Swapmeet site, and a mate spent hours on the tank which would pass for a NOS item, so thanks one and all.

Cheers
Adam

I have 2 on the go at the moment one an 82 is down to the bare frame  nut and bolt resto and the other an 81 for thrashing around the track hopefully,
Will have to pick your brain for how he did the tank.

Awesome Job Adam  8) 8) 8)

I love the finish on the expansion chamber.  What did you paint it with ??
Looking for YZ250C parts NOS if possible

JohnnyO, I just like the look of the green to break up some of the yellow. And the thin pinstriping in the Reproduction Decals kit looks like a real cow to put on ???

The paint on the engine, chamber and hubs is Plastikote Woodstove. I think it was Bitten that said it has been discontinued though. I buy any can I see now as it is really nice to paint.

Thanks Adam.  I will switch to that paint myself.  I have used potty belly stove paint on a few of mine, but the sheen and colour of that Plastikote looks perfect  8).

Hi Adam,

Great job and I know what it takes to get the tank back to new looking - at least 10 hours of sanding and the loss of fingerprints for a while!

The Plasticote woodstove has been deleted but the same paint has been re released as Wattyl Woodstove - same parent company

And thanks for your advice on my 465 project along the way - I will post some photos one day when it stops raining!

Cheers

Bitten
