CR250M alternator
« on: February 01, 2012, 08:33:49 pm »
Apologies for what may a stupid question but I'd better ask anyway.

I need to replace the alternator stator on my 73 CR250M.

The part number for the stator on the CMS micro-fiche is 31102-381-811 for all models between 73 and 76 and they all look the same

There are a few NOS stators for sale on Ebay with part number 31102-381-003 which are listed as suitable for a 76 CR250 only.

Will the 76 stator fit my CR250M?  They appear to be exactly the same.

Any advice would be much appreciated.  Cheers

Thanks Jim but they're cheap enough to buy NOS rather than repairing the existing one interstate (I'm in Vic). I just need to confirm one suitable for the 76 bike will actually fit and function on my 73.

Hi.
Not sure what you have ,(points or CDI) 73 and 74 came out with points but there was a CDI option,
I think by 76 CDI was standard,
Small coil rewinds in Vic. are good, with bike stuff I send my stuff there from NSW.
Cheers

'76 model is still points. I don't know what the difference is between the 2, they both look the same. Maybe the coil windings are a little different.

More research,
CDI option in 75 and 76,

American parts fiche's show CDI from 74

wiring diagram for 75/76 with points in slightly different to 74 diagram

Adam your part number   31102-381-811 is for CDI,

Do stator need to be matched to rotors

what do you have?

Thanks for all the replies,

Its basically the whole alternator set I want to replace - stator, spacer and rotor.

I'm only going by the CMS micro-fiche which has the same alternator shown for all years 73 -76 (CR250M and CR250M1)

My current alternator is points and condensor - no CDI and it has the usual coil mounted on frame under the tank

The NOS version on Ebay is advertised as having part number ending in 003 not 811 but they claim its for a 76 model which is what's confusing me.

Having said that, the one on Ebay it looks exactly the same so it would probably be worth the punt to buy (I think) ???

If you buy the complete set,Stator, mount plate ,rotor ,cdi and coil,
I think the answer would be yes it will fit.
