He also told me it is an ex Gally frame & that he worked for the Gall brothers & that he now had pics on ebay, when i looked at them i thought it was strange coz the OW51 pictures i had seen had a cantilever swingarm not linkage, looks painfully stock to me ;)

I think you will find this is Steve's OW from memory he never rode it much I think they had problems getting it set up and had an easier time with the 465 I may be wrong?

Na ,I think you're right .I think he tried the OW for a while but found that it was only better than the YZ on certain types of tracks and went back to the YZ. ???? Come in Johnny O .

Isn't the radiator spigot behind the steering head a giveaway?

Pleased to hear it mate. :)

I seem to recall it was 1983 Gally ran the works engine in a YZ250K frame?
Heres the photo to prove it.

So unless he ran it in a 250J in 1982, its a firthy.

Over to you John.

Didnt Stephen Gall put his works engine into a YZ250 frame in 1983?Thats the only way I could see how it could possibly be referenced as a works frame I guess?
But #8 was around in the scene in those days so I will default to his feedback.
Gally put his works engine in a YZ465 chassis in 1981, the same year he campained the works bike at some races.

I think he answered that one.

I can remember Gally running the OW at the Kentucky Fried Chicken mx at Windaroo in early '81 and also at Tivoli MR MX but later he went back to the YZ465 and even fitted the OW motor into the YZ for a while.
That pic of Gally on the '83 definately looks like the works engine, probably the same one but fitted to a '83 490 chassis by the looks.
He had that OW for a long time until selling it to a Qld collector in the late 90's

Looks like a 250 J frame with the outlet/inlet for the water cooling on the LHS of the steering head, but there is also a motor mount missing from the bottom frame rails.

Guys, refer page 15 of VMX magazine number 9 and the article on Galls 1981 OW51.
And I quote ....
"At the end of the highly successful 1981 season Steve put the OW(51) away in the corner of his workshop in Sydney. Its potent 498cc magnesium motor was removed and slipped into a production YZ250(J) frame, easily able to accomodate the OW motor because of its centre port/split frame configuration."
It could well be the real deal, albeit  its not a works frame, merely the place it resided in 1982. :)
