Yamaha part no's

Is the prefix important when looking at part no's for a YZ. The Yamaha online parts catalogue shows the spoke set for a 79 yz125 as part no 537-25304-01-00, there's a NOS set on ebay with the part no 401-25304-00.

Probably a dumb question, but that's my area of expertise.

The first three letter/numbers identifies the model. 537 is YZ125C 1976.

I'm guessing that all models that use this part (spokes in this case) use the same part No.
The No from the first use seems to stay in place.

there's also this guy on ebay who's selling a shiteload of DID spokes, but doesn't list part no's (cause their obviously not original) but if they're interchangeable between a number of models....

i have bought spokes from that thailand seller, t'was a very simple and cheap deal
BUT! the spokes are ever so slightly a lighter guage than stock. if you can live with that, and i can, then go for it.
401-blah,blah is the mighty MX125 series
537-blah,blah is the YZ125c
they share the exact same rear hub=same spokes.

early DT spokes will also fit
BUT, {here i go again}
they are a much lighter guage and i wouldn't use em for moto-x

yammie part numbers don't always cross over.
from what i can gather,
prefix 537.............................=model
         537-rest of the number..=part
so a TT500 could have the same "rest of the number" as a yz80
and then obviously, the spokes wouldn't fit.

Basically, the code for spoke sets may be the same across models, but they're differentiated by the prefix and not necessarily interchangeable.

Mainline, you have got it in 1. Although yamaha do supersede the prefix (first 3 numbers/letters) so it can mean the part will fit but it can also be slightly different.

Correct Vandy.
If you ordered a front guard for a YZ125E the part number 2k8-21511-01-00 but it is superseded to
5X6-21511-01-00 which is a YZ125J guard. It fits but it isnt the same.

while we're taliking spokes,i notice you have yz125f under your name.
my belief is that spokes from the yz125a through to the yz125f are the same and so are the 125mx series.
the earlier models ran a dished sprocket so the hubs were slightly narrower but this did not effect the spoke lengths.
from the 'D' model YZ onwards, and the early monoshock DT 125/175 rear hubs, the sprocket was 'undished' but once again, the spokes are all compatible.
so,
74yz/mx125
through to
79yz/dt125/175
=same.
im unsure about the early IT175 but it could run the same rear hub.
just watch the DT spokes as i bought some cheap a while back thinking i got a bargain till i opened the packet to find they're a much lighter guage.
yammie front wheels are much easier...

Does that mean the thailand DT1 spokes are crap for VMX or have I read this wrong Vandy just when I thought I solved the problem  jimson

i'll give the thailand spokes the thumbs up!
but not for that concourse resto.
basically, the yammie NOS spokes have a thicker guage at the hub end, then about half way along the spoke they go to thier std guage.
the thai spokes are the std guage all the way along and still use the same size nipples.
hard to pass for the money.

Have you tried Yamaha Moorooka in Brissy? i bought my NOS original 465 spokes from them cheap.

Tony, i did some time ago get spokes from moorooka as i know the parts guy pretty well and you can't beat NOS spokes, but i still think with a bit of groundwork, ebay can yield some tasty deals.
call me mr budget! too many wheels, too little time...
or money...
