Hi Guys...now I don't want be a pedant  (Firko's fav word)...anyone else see the article on Broc Glover in the new VMX mag?...I reckon the picture of the bike number 6 with the USD forks in it...it is not an "open class" Yamaha but rather a 250.... the size of the exhaust and the cylinder only lend me to think it is only a 250.... Anyone else got an opinion..??

I haven't seen it but Broc tried the Simons USD's ( if thats what they are) for SuperX but not outdoors .So I think you are right , I never saw Broc use usd's on his 490,if someone has a pic lets see it. ;)

Its got linkage surpenion too so all yammie 250 linkage was water cooled so there for its a 1983 490 with simmons

Current bikes. KTM MC 250 77 Husky CR 360 77, Husky 82 420 Auto Bitsa XR 200 project. Dont need a pickle just need to ride my motorcickle

82 works OW 250' s ran linkages and air cooling, thats Glover,Bell ,Hannah,Burnsworth in US and LaPorte and Watson in EU

I agree Brent, works 250. You can't compare works to production bikes.

I agree Brent, works 250. You can't compare works to production bikes.


I think that Yamaha only allowed the Simons forks in 82 coz the bikes were so bad.They didnt run the water cooling because it added weight to bikes that were already too heavy, by 83 this got better and thy were back to works yam forks

Yeah you can see the blanked off water pump on the clutch cover. It's unusual that the works bike was aircooled and the production watercooled that year.

That could be the governor for the power-valve The OW 490 ran power-valve's

But where does it say "open class" in the caption below the picture ? The pipe looks slightly similar to the air-scoop type pipe that Hakan Carlqvist and Leif Persson were using on the OW500s in the GPs. I have some pictures of the European OWs, but can't post them yet because I haven't worked out how to use Photo Bucket (since the demise of Village photos).

both #6 pics are southwick  82 ,thats keylon behind in the 2nd pic who rode a factory rc250 briefly in 82.Broc rode 250 outdoors in 82 trying to be the first to win the 3 class's.81 and 83 when he won the 500's he had conventional forks.

Page 27 has the caption about "open class"... I believe the bikes on page 27 and 29 are the same.....compere the pic on page 28 behind Bailey..check the diff in the pipes...

Ah, sorry about that. I only flicked open the magazine to see the picture on page 29 and thought that was the one you were referring to .
