Metisse clone.
« on: December 17, 2011, 11:31:59 pm »
I happened across this picture from the Goodwood Revival.  Didn't give it much thought until reading the latest VMX magazine.  Looks to be one of the Ridley Racing Specials as mentioned on page 71 of issue #48.

Your right I may not be in love with the disc brake on the front. Or maybe the way the rear end sticks up like a goat in rut.....

From the parts and products section issue #48.

Chris Malam brings us this entry, after seeing the bike at the 2011 Stafford Show.

"The RRE500 is only the second motorcycle to be built in the North East of England since NUT motorcycles ceased production in 1933 of their V-twin sports machine in Newcastle-uopn-Tyne.  Ridley Racing Specials are a newly formed company in this part of the IK, but owner Tommy Ridley has over thirty years ecperience in specially built racing and road-going kit cars.  As a specialist motorcycle frame builder, Ridley Racing manufacture frames suitable for Rickman Metisse, CCM, B44/50 and Monark/Lito bikes in aircraft-grade chromemoly 4130 tubing.  He now also builds the RRE500 which is powered by the new Royal Enfield 500 EFI engine.  The whole bike unashamedly takes its influence from the Metisse with a retro-style frame, built in the same aircraft grade chromemoly 4130 and utilizing stainless steel components, yet the hi-tech Royal Enfield 500 EFI engine even boasts an electric start.  The engine comes in two sizes - 500cc and 565cc.  Ridley Racing also manufacure their own forks, yolks, hubs, and body parts in fibreglass or aluminum.  Their production methods make for a very competitive build cost, which is priced in the UK at £14,995.  The bike is available in kit form or built to order in 6 - 8 weeks.

I have some of my staff in China, maybe they can grab it on the way through the airport.

Anyways $12500 buys you the real deal with Weslake BSA off the swap meet at the moment. looks like some nice bits have gone into it.

for $12500 I would want it washed and the tyres pumped up..... but light weight hubs and tricky top end would indicate that whoever built it was serious
