KTM MX504 1983
« on: December 08, 2011, 12:14:46 am »
Hi guys - I have an opportunity to pick up a 1983 KTM MX504 – not sure on the MX as guy stated it has a White Power shock – I thought the MX came out with a Fox shock and GS came with WP.

Anyway apparently fully rebuilt around 10 years ago and not ridden since – any ideas as to what to offer  ??? ??? ???

Thanks in advance

Hi Mick

Yep powered by the Rotax 4 plonker - apparently timing belt had let go and he spent ~4k on rebuild 10 years ago - I would have thought that cost was somewhat excessive or it may have been spent on whole bike – but not sure yet   :-\  – will go have a look this weekend

Enough that he says yes. That would be a great thing to own. I bought an 84 Husky 510 off a guy who had  a Can Am Sonic and an 83 KTM   504 as well. He was obviously a lover of non Japanese performance 4 strokes. His KTM is the only one I have seen.
Cheers, Grahame

Thanks Grahame - it seems like this is a rather rare beast - but in saying that Im not realy into the single shock and the 4 stroke so Im in 2 minds of what to do with it.

Obviously I will buy this so its not just left in a shed for another 10 years - would anyone have interest in owning this bike - Im not after making a profit out of this just need somone that would appreciate it and use it.

I have the 84 model with the upside forks and it is a GS one way to tell is the GS has a larger 12 litre tank with the MX 10 litre. Price wise it would need to be mint to pay over 4k for one IMO, there rare but do come up now and then and I haven't seen one sell for over that.
He may have spent allot on it but that doesn't mean it worth allot as well. Becarefull with the timing belts there 2 version and they both work but they make it hard to start if you have the wrong one.

Thanks Mick

I will check out the size of the tank - I have a few spare ones and I know I have an 83 model GS one as well as an MX one so will show him the difference if needed - I was also led to believe the forks were a different diameter ie: 40mm for GS and 42mm for MX.

So thanks for the help so far, any other support is welcomed and those that provided me support will have first option on the bike. ;D ;D

I will go look see tomorrow and make an offer – traditionally I make a viable offer then utilise an agreed method that reduces the offer as we progress ……….(but cant give away all my secrets yet) 8) 8)

If successful I will post some pics and make it available for what I got it for.  :D

Thanks Greg much appreciate info

Well saw the bike and it has been set up Motard style  :'( :'( - but never ridden. Some other mods done but reversable.

only issue is owner not willing to negotiate price of $4K so I have walked away. I told the owner its a shame to leave in the shed in this state - so he may reconsider price - or indeed he is now potentially interested in converting bike back to MX trim and come VMX riding.

So may have not got the bike myself but we may have another rider and bike join us. :D :D

Regards All
