19'' motocross tyre choice

I'm using a 19'' rear wheel on my TriBSA pre '60 project and not having used a 19" rear before, would like to know you guys think is the best all round tyre? The only issues I'm dealing with is that I'm using a WM3 Borrani rim and have a very limited swingarm width.

I'm still a big fan of the Michelin S12 on the rear (usually partnered with an MH3 on the front). I know its supposed to be a soft-terrain tyre, but they grip well on everything and hold up fairly well on rocks.
I ended up with a MH3 rear on my 06 YZ, and it has impressed me too.

Edges seem to matter more on a 19, compared to an 18, FWIW.

 You'll have to get hold of an old goodyear grasshopper Firko!, It would not only be from the right era but probably as hard as a rock and would last well!

Funny that Wal.....I was given a BSA QD back wheel that's still got the old Goodyear Grasshopper mounted from back in the sixties....shit, it's even got 60's air in it! I was going to have to hacksaw it off but I'm not using the QD wheel now so it can remain mounted for a while yet.

Funny that Firko, I remember my dad raving about how good a tyre the " Grasshopper " was.
If you're planning to ride it on DT then just call Col Moody and get a 19" Mitas.

I honestly don't reckon it makes that much difference. Especially on the rear.
When you're riding at the pace most of us blokes do these days, if it's black and round it will do the job......... within reason......... 

That said, I used a Kenda Washougal on the front of my V-Strom to cross the Simpson and it handled really well in the sand. It also held together doing over 2000kms of bitumen at illegal speeds. Didn't throw knobs or crack at all. 

Still got it in the shed and it only looks 1/3 worn if you want to pop by and grab it one arvo?

Bridgestone M204 soft to intermediate or M404 intermediate are both good tyres.

I agree Tony, black & round will do the job for 75% of riders.
I only returned to racing just over 12 months ago and bought a Kenda DT rear tyre, the advice at the time was as varied as the length's of a peice of string.
At first I thought the Kenda was pretty good but as my race pace increased it really became a liability.
Buy a quality tyre first up, there aint a lot of diff in price, you'll get more value out of it.
On the front I like the Kenda Milleville Sticky.

Yeah they are very good tyres as are the MH3 and S12 Michellins as Nathan said and also the Pirelli MX Extra are very good. Not a fan of Kenda's, used one on the rear a couple of times and felt like riding on a flat as the track dried out...

This bike's essentially a motocrosser Steve but if I use it for DT I'll probably use the Kenda Speedway tyre I've got tucked away or yes, ask Col for a Mitas, I've got Mitas tyres on all of my dirt track tackle courtesy of Col.

I was thinking of the S12 as I've used and like them but I figured that 19" might be new science. I've got the Bridgestone intermediate Head recommends on my Cheney but it hasn't seen dirt yet. If it was just fat old me riding the bike, black and round will do the job more than adequately, even the old Grasshopper would work for me. However someone else is riding my bikes at the Nats next year so I want the set up good. Thanks for the input guys.

Yep, I can confirm it's a Motocross tyre you're after.
Dunno how I missed that heading, really must start wearing my goggles more often.
