1976 RM370A GearBox
« on: November 07, 2011, 05:44:03 pm »
Gday all,

Split the cases on my 370 today and 2 teeth fell out, not a good sign  :'(

1st gear lost the teeth and rest of the gears dont look too good including the kickstarter gear.

So if any one out there has a useable 370 or 400 gearbox spare it would be appreciated.

And you might be in the hunt for a set of selector forks as well.

Ebay US is the best place to find good gears for the 370. I got a complete gearbox for mine for in excellent condition for a good price. Anything you find in Oz has usually done a million hours and is junk. There have also been a few NOS gears for around $60 a gear.

There's only 1 complete set of gears on there at the moment but keep checking and more will turn up soon.
I'm in the middle of rebuilding my gearbox after breaking 5 gears and i've managed to get some new and some very good s/h gears and shift forks.

All the same or different???

Does your gearbox look anything like the pics of mine??

I got a couple of false neutrals when trying to get 4th gear so knocked it back to 3rd and the gearbox basically exploded and locked up sending me over the bars.
Mine was much worse than yours, 3rd gear was in 3 large pieces and the other gears were all missing teeth.
Make sure you get gears with good dogs, jumping out of gear because of worn dogs was the cause of my problem.

Is it a manufacture problem with the 370 destroying gearboxs or just wear an tear for a 30+ yr old bike???

I want to see some close up pic's of the parts available on ebay.

Cheers

Yeah just wear and tear over the years. There are no real good gears on ebay at the moment, wait for some more to come up.

Toolboy, see the info in the wanted ad for the RM370 forks. Bloke in Texas wrecking a 370 now. Nipper was after the forks. G/Box might be there too. ta pete
