Bike shops and old parts
« on: March 06, 2008, 06:33:10 pm »
I would just like to give a big thumbs up to the guys behind the parts counter at On Two Wheels PENRITH
On the several occasions I have been in there to source parts for a 27 yr old bike they never frown or say " Nah mate no longer available " before they even look ( unlike another store out this way ) they are always upbeat and willing to help. If parts are unavailable from the factory and before you drop your bottom lip they say i will just check and see if another dealer has one on his shelf. Presto...I get my parts from here there and everywhere because my local dealer is looking after " Just another punter off the street " with absolutely no financial gain to themself.

In my books that is REAL service........Keep up the good work fellas.

Good to hear a positive story for a change, Ted.
Bolton Kawasaki in Adelaide were the same for me and got me quite a few NOS parts.
They also reminded me that there was quite a few parts on the shelves that were no longer 'in stock' so don't come up on the computer. So that just meant leg work looking for parts of the right description. Very time consuming, but with the potential to find some NOS bits if you're very lucky.

Yes I too get good service when I seek Yamaha parts for my 30+ year old Yamahas from the local dealer (Gladstone Motorcycles).
Did you know there is software in the Yamaha parts computor system that records when someone makes a parts enquiry and gets the dreaded NLA (no longer available) returned. Once enough NLAs appear for a part, Yamaha makes a batch - and the system works!!

IF its yamaha get them to look on the YDC net, that comp. system will tell you which dealer in the country has that part number booked into there stock room, and then give you there phone number or details, you can then call them and buy it or get it send to you .

Yep I'll back up what Feetup says Gladstone Motorcycles they have gone out of there way to find parts (for my little Honda)the bike shops here in Rockhampton say are no longer available. Was told one day by one of the bike shops here in Rockhampton that me and my old bikes give them the shits. So I don't even go there to buy chain lube now days. >:( Darcy #674

what a great way to keep a repeat customer! i would of gave the owner /manager a serve for that.

I went into Peter Stevens (big store) in Dandenong for a plug a few years ago on a saturday morning and there was a few people around the parts counter, i asked a bloke who worked there for a plug and i got " I don't sell plugs, i'm a new bike salesman" i walked straight out never to return again

i am lucky as Geoff Taylor Yamaha/Dandenong Honda go out of their way to look for my bits, if it comes back as out of stock they allways ring to ask if i want to back order it and if it then comes back NLA they do a new old stock search of other dealers for me. so if you are after Honda/Yamaha parts in Dandenong Area give Brad or Daniel a call.

I surpose here in Wanganui NZ we are a bit spoilt, our 4 shops have VMX riders or supporters. So when it comes to finding parts they do try extremely hard to get the parts. Failing that, they will give you information on the wheres, whos, and whys to get you up and running. The parts guy at the shop I go to regularly gives me Oz phone numbers after a seach of who has got the parts in stock. He will let me go through there old stock as well. I have spent many a Saturday morning with my parts book's in hand seaching away, and they even bring ya a coffee at smoko time. They will let you take parts home to check to see if they will do the job, and even let you use there specialized tools. When I had to do the jetting of the Noguchi, I was given a set of main jets from 190 to 245(just return them when I'm finished), so now I know the main jets to buy without having to buy huge numbers of them. In fact, go to any of our 4 shops here and say you ride vmx and you will be treated like a long lost friend.
Thanks Paragon Yamaha; Keown Honda; Whitelock Suzuki and Joe Lett ltd.

my two pennies worth, I've been into the local Yamaha dealer on the northwest (Mitchelton) of Brisbane and been given the blank stare, I've even left my number and been told they'd get back to me, never heard a thing.

I went into the Moorooka branch of the same chain and spoke to a guy called Gwilym Walker who took a list of all the parts I needed and told me it'd take a couple of weeks. He rang me a week later just to let me know that most parts were in but he was still waiting for a couple to turn up. Then a couple of days later another call to say they were all in. Most of the bits were NOS he'd had shipped in from other stores, I'd seriously recommend calling this guy if you're stuck for any Yamaha bits 07 3426 4420.

BTW, i wouldn't buy a bloody thing from the first pack of idiots, even though the other store is half an hour further away.
