Averil Grayson
« on: October 16, 2011, 05:41:31 pm »
I just received a very sad phonecall from Vern Grayson telling me that his darling Averil died this morning at 11.30. She'd fought a long and courageous battle with cancer but in the end she could no longer hold the bastard of a disease off. Anyone who knew Averil will know what a hard worker she was for motorcycling and what a sweet and loyal friend she was. Vern's a mess right now and those who know of his own battle with the black dog will understand that he'll need a lot of support. Even though I knew she was on her last legs, I'm in shock and overcome with sadness......I'm so glad I got to see her for one last time at CD8.

Vern has asked that friends refrain from contacting he and the family to allow private mourning. There won't be an open funeral.

Thats really sad.....one of the nicest people you could ever meet in your lifetime....I've just watched the All Blacks win to get to the final but it just seems insignificant now.....god speed Averil.

What a great idea. Averil and Vern were at the driving end of the VMX movement in Queensland so it's a terrific proposal to honour the great lady in such a way.

I'd rather just do it and bring a tear to his eye.

Tread carefully with that Vern has strong views about that sort of thing so I suggest it be run past me or BillHolm first. We have tried to honour Averill & Vern before & he was adamant against it. We should settle down and let due time go past.
All mean well but this forum has a talent for turning things into a 3 ring circus
