Sean the 'A' model had a fibreglass bash plate and it was fragile. All models after that are aluminium.

Ianyz. How the hell did you get an original TY250A fibreglass bashplate I thought very single one was smashed the very first rock that the bike hit, some even broke getting the bike off the trailer

There was a very interesting molded rubber replacement made in the day but it was less than ideal as they stopped the bike dead in its tracks when they snagged on a rock Most people retro-fitted the 'B' model alloy bash plate.

  Had it since new , She still has lights , horn , tool box lid and bolt , But I do need a side stand and muffler if anyone has them .

I was told by someone that the aly bash plate became part of the frame when bolted in ( which sounded a bit stange to me) but  if it doesn,t that means the motor does I had never heard of the fibre glass bash plates so that supports the motor as a stressed member theory I guess do you guys no any more about this ?

Sean there are no lower frame tubes below the engine as it is a stressed member and the sump guard bolts on to the chassis in front of the engine and behind it. Most people these days make a flat sump guard out of 6mm aluminium plate to bolt on in place of the original which in most cases by now is either misseng or in a very sorry state if the bike has been used in competition.

The flate replacement is better for the modern riding style as it gives a nice flat surface that allows the bike to sit on top of rocks and logs etc. Back in '74-78 the no stop rule was in force and the sump guard was molded to closely follow the shape of the cases as the bike was not allowed to stop forward motion on logs or rocks.

Thanks for clearing that up for me I,ll just make one out of 6mm . I couldn,t see how the bash plate could be a frame member I,ll tell ringo he,s wrong again
