Aluminum swingarm resto tricks wanted

Am starting on a resto of a new fangled single shock, water cooled disc braked four stroke Husky 510. Never having dabbled in the art of restoring alloy swing arms before I am after advice on how to get that OEM brushed aluminum surface appearance  . Also were swing arms finished  in raw aluminum and clear coated or did they have an anodized finish. Any guidance appreciated before I stuff something up

in the latest vmx mag article of Anthony Gunter's RM400, he mentions a mob in Brissy that brush-finished his swingarm and then clear powder coated it. I'm don't know if that was the original finish on your Husky though.

If I remember correctly, that era husky (86-88 I believe) had a painted alloy swingarm, sort of a grey/ silver.

Definitely not painted. Its alloy in the raw...so to speak.

Being a cheapskate, I would get a scotchbrite wheel on the benchgrinder and brush finish it and then spray it with a can of urethane mag wheel clear.

This one's definately painted, you can see where the paint has been removed when a repair was done to the chain adjuster nut/bolt set up.

Alot of arms are anodised silver and it looks like paint when a bit comes off.....its alot of work to paint a swingarm and make it look good (alloy ones are alot bigger than steel ones and would probably require a special primer) and it would take away that "special" look you get with a painted one....just adding a confusing thought.

Guess that comes from indian cost cutting, how long til all KTMs are made in india?

How can that be cost cutting, I'd imagine it's dearer to paint then to plate the spokes?
