5-pack of quick Resto questions: 1980 KX125 A6

Hey guys. Restoring my A6 and have a few questions for the KX'perts ...

1. Is the swingarm originally anodized or painted silver? It appears to be a satin finish. I haven't put a magnet to it yet, but I assume it is alloy?? I am looking for the original look.

2. Has anyone found or know of a supplier for swingarm pivot bearings? I can find almost every other KX model... but not this one.  ???

3. Does anyone have a fuel tank for sale for an 80/81 KX125?

4. Does anyone have a PDF file or the like for a parts manual? (I know I can use babbitts/bikebandit/cmsnl/motogrid etc)

5. Is there a database somewhere listing the sequencing of Frame / Engine numbers for both the 80 and 81 model KX125's?

You can print the pages of the parts manual individually from the Kawasaki US site - perhaps even the Australian Kawasaki site.

I did this to get the parts manual for my KDX400, but I actually printed them to PDF, and then combined them into one file.

Hi Hardo - the swingarm is alloy and is painted silver. I can let you know the swingarm bearing numbers in a few days as I have just rebuilt a KX250, i think they are available from bearing shops. . Your best bet is to buy a parts book on ebay. The parts books show the engine and frame number sequences, buy one for the A7 and it will have the A6 listed as well.  Sorry no tank. Cheers

Trent: Cheers mate! Thats exactly what I was after. It looks like it was painted originally but needed to ask. Do you know the paint colour exactly ? Does anyone out there know it?

Hardo, what dimensions are the needle rollers? There is a great little bearing joint in Raymo that have been able to supply most bearings and seals I have required at a decent prices. http://www.truelocal.com.au/business/terrace-auto-parts-and-bearing-centre/raymond-terrace nice guy to deal with and has heaps of stock.

Thanks Brando  (Rocketfrog) ... I just got a few gearbox bearings from them !   ;D  Top guys there.

Okay, I have it pretty well sorted... I have managed 4 of the 5 things I required.

The only thing I need is a Fuel Tank... PLEASE does anyone have one? It doesnt have to be perfect - just structurally good.

This is what it looks like... from what I can tell the 80 and 81 are identical, and even the 79 looks pretty close (??) .

Yeah, I agree that the '79 tank appears to be pretty much identical. They definately didn't change from 1980 to 1981, I know that much.

The 80 and 81 125 were very similar. (I owned and raced both back in the day.)

A few differences:
Pegs:  Steel on the A6, alloy on the A7

Seat:  White graphic on the A6, green on the A7

Cylinder: 1980 had exhaust port bridge (low port height too) and good low/mid power. 1981 lost the bridge (raised port) and was a lot peakier.

Exhaust: From memory the '81 had a shorter header pipe and main chamber to compliment the peakier cylinder. They also fitted an alloy muffler to the A7 if my memory serves me as well as I'd like it to.

Frame: Slight mods to headstock area in '81 after frame breakages.

I've got a basket case A6 here myself, ready to begin restoring as soon as I can afford it. i have a real soft spot for these old KX125s.

Thanks for the tips Greg. I found a pretty good tank on ebay and restored it up.

That previous pic isn't of my bike.... I wish!!  :)

Coming along pretty nicely. The re-sleeve job is ready to be picked up!
