Shock Questions

Gday all,

I would like some info on the following if possible:

What shocks are these...fitted to my RM370..i think Work Performance?
Are they rebuildable?
Are they worth rebuilding or should i look at a new set??
If a new set what sort of shocks should i look at??
Im not rich but want to race the bike.

Aluminium plate for the bump stop suggests they are rebuildable.

Whether they're worth doing depends on whether the chrome is good, seals are cheap/easy to get, and if you have to pay full commercial rates for labour.

My gut feeling is "no", but I could be wrong.

They're Works Performance and they're fully rebuildable. The kits to suit modern spec Works shocks fit and are available on eBay. These cast alloy finned Works shocks are internally virtually identical to the latest model. I've rebuilt them and if I can do it, anyone can, it's a piece of piss. The only downer being that if the shafts are rooted it won't be worth fixing them. If OK they're damn good shocks, well worth the effort and a $25 kit.

Firko...If the chrome is ok do you do you have a workshop manual or parts diagram + oil level to rebuild them??

I would like to have a go at rebuilding if worthwhile.

Also i how will i know if the springs are ok....is there a way of tellling what spring rating they are??

Toolboy all the parts and info you need is available from Works Performance in the US.
Like Firko said they are a good shock and worth rebuilding.

I am sure there is a Works Perf. dealer on this forum and i think he in Queensland? I just cant remember who it was but he is a regular poster and im sure he said he had the parts when someone else was asking about Works stuff the other week or so. Before you get too excited though, first strip them and check out the piston and inside of the body. If they have been let run low on oil for a long time and have never had the piston rings changed there could be horrors inside.

Gday all,

Well today i had a bit of time decided to have look inside one of the works shocks, having seen the ebay links for parts access.

The pic's pretty much tell the story:

Looks like new ones will be the go... those shocks would be 30+ years old so i guess they served their purpose.
