Any Help Would Be Appreciated
« on: February 25, 2008, 09:00:22 pm »
The bucket of bolts is on e-bay and to be honest is not worth the $ as a starting price... However i think that   the front end is a RM C2 unit. I cant see a speedo drive in the front hub and the front hub does not look correct - Thoughts?

The hub looks Honda or Yam to me.The backing plate is anybodies guess-the brake actuating arm to cable relatiionship looks wrong.Fork overhang below axle looks C2, but could be off Yam or Honda also-Big Help that Was! The rest looks PE though.

That front hub looks a hell of a lot like my '78 CR 250 one, can't check for sure as they are at the powder coaters.

At a quick glance, I'd say:

pay low and enoy!! it's a PE after all. Good fun.

forks are NOT PE250C. The axle flange looks very wrong.
The hub is easy - shared with TS, but the flange is hard - only came on the C/N, I think.
You should see the drive at axle-height, out the back. Just doesn't look like the real thing from here.

seat looks either worn down or bent? the carb airbox boot is either about to fall off, or wrong.
incorrect muffler. Front number-plate has to be wrong. The C/N had two bolts high. The T/X had them low like that. Missing side stand, missing chain tensioner. Missing bottom off the bash-plate. (mount is still there). Bars look wrong, or maybe just laid way back?

something is wrong with the pipe..  it's niggling at me.

Everything covered in black spray paint makes it harder :-)

My experience with old C model PE's. (and it's been a lot)
As they are a trail bike they get a lot more work than a RM so when they look like this one you can guarantee that it will be on the last oversize and worn out at that.
Aside from the right side engine case and a few odd washers etc, there is nothing shared with the RM so unless you are in the market to collect PE parts, what you see is worthless to a VMX racer, unless you race a PE and all this is not helped as the output shaft is snapped.
Can also guarantee that;
- The frame will be rusted out around the footpeg/main frame/subframe junction area.
- The gear lever and shifter splines will be stuffed if they haven't already been welded together.
- The airbox will be rooted.
- The swing arm won't last 2 minutes at the sandblaster as they will blow a hole through the underside at the rear most point.

What is worth something.
The flywheel, as long as no-one has belted it with a hammer and damaged the magnets.
The rear wheel as it is basically a RM unit.

it is a dubious buy for $200. The wheels and forks would be okay for RM, the frame if you look around the header pipe area has been attacked with a welder as has the kick start and gear shafts. The airbox looks okay but the appears rubber has gone hard and shrunk as usual. At least it is connected but not sure they even fit RM. Motor internals, electrics, carb, suspension, wheels, plastics maybe useful but yeah, being a trailbike it's bound to have seen lots of use and I would baulk at the price unless I was chasing the above mentioned parts specifically ;)

PE250C engine parts below fit the RM's listed

clutch basket will fit RM250 A/B/C/C2
clutch pressure plate will fit 'all' RM250/370/400 up to '81
clutch inner hub will fit RM250 A/B/C/C2
clutch cover will fit RM250A/B/C/C2
engine cases can be used on RM250A/B/C/C2
right crank half will fit RM250B/C/C2
conrod, bearing, piston/rings (double ring) can be used in RM250A/B/C/C2
primary drive gear same as RM250A/B/C/C2
reed valve will fit all RM250/370/400 up to 1978
selector drum will fit all RM250/370/400 up to '78
selector forks suit RM250/A/B/C/C2
selector shaft (unwelded) fits RM125/250 A/B/C/C2
kickstart shaft suits RM250/A/B/C/C2
driveshaft suits all RM250 up to '81
2nd drive gear suits RM250 A/B/C/C2
2nd driven gear suits RM250A/B/C/C2

Geez you guys are good.

Doc, I think the work around the header pipe might just be a bodgy mounts for a bash plate. There are some additional plates bolted to the lower motor mount that also look like bash plate mounts.

If the engine is in good nick internally it might be worth the asking price. Roll the dice and see who wins.

For 200 bucks it's sure to have something wrong with it! With the value increases our bikes are currently going through, anything with two wheels and a motor for $200 is a good buy. This PE is perfect for the bloke who wants a cheap and comparitively simple entry level racer or full resto. I can't see what you blokes are complaining about. It looks like a good deal to me.

Firko,
To buy this bike for $200 would take a further $1000 to make it track worthy. A total cost of $1200.
You can buy a dam good PE250 for way less than this and not have to put anywhere as much effort into it.
I guess that where i am coming from is that i would rather buy a $5/600 bike and get $8/900 worth of parts than spend $200 and get $100 maybe $150 worth of bits.

Yes I kinda agree with Bahnsy. It's not like any of the parts are super rare and the bike itself would need quite a bit to get it happening even if the motor did run. Yes it is a bargain price but not a bargain unless it's exactly what you want or has the parts you need. A good bike to buy and throw in the shed for spares as required I'd reckon but only if it was local ;)

I'd have it for $200 every day of the week if it were close by, and I don't even want it or need any parts of it. Any avid Suzuki fan would be glad they bought it the day they broke a hub, bent a fork, holed a clutch cover etc. You blokes can be harsh sometimes..
Cheers,
K

it's not being harsh at all guys. I'm sure most who have over looked this item such as myself already have the parts kicking around that would be of any use. Suzuki is good like that, lots of models and lots of parts that interchange. I'm not saying it's a bad buy but it would/could take quite a bit to get it fixed. $800 gets you a fair to decent offroad only PE250 if you look around. Oldfart, I was always under the same opinion about parts..you can have enough..more than enough!! :D If I had the spare cash and a big enough shed I would collect all the cheapies I could. I do firmly believe this PE would be better served up as parts ;) in parts it's worth more than $200. A good buy if you can go pick it up or desparately need the parts otherwise it's debatable and I do love my Zooks!  ;)

Here's another...this one being the alloy tanked B model is far more desirable to me but the other would make a good spares bike. Buy them both and then you'd be onto a good thing  ;)
