Great initiative. Bit of shame that pre-78 goes in with pre-80(Evo). I understand that numbers might not allow for it. The 4 by 10 min plus 1 lap moto's per Class will find out the less fit amongst us - me included. But on the flip side it will be a real test of man and machine.

With greatest respects John i am not kidding

If you want to alienate the young ( and 29 is not young ) fellas i believe this will do it

We hear every day " But thats what we rode back in the day " If that is the case then 16 yrs of age being the age that you got your open race licence then Pre 75 should be 53 yrs plus, Pre 80 48 yrs plus, Pre 85 43 yrs plus and Pre 90 38 yrs plus

Where did 30 yrs come from?

Over 30 yrs comes from Vet racing and 90% of the vintage racers are Vets.
Under 30 year olds can race every week on modern bikes and modern tracks just like we did when we were under 30 and they have many years ahead of them to race old bikes.

I don`t agree with your figures of only 10% of VMX racers is under 30...At Heavens last round at Clarence there was 15 ( that i know of ) out of 50 entries under 25. That equates to a lot more than 10%

Isn`t the over 30 class to cater for mums and dads ( of current riders ( juniors ) to race their moderns...I fail to see what that age group has to do with VMX

Who do you think started the vintage motocross scene.. do you think it was a bunch of kids who thought it would be good to race around on 20 year old bikes?? It's always been about old guys on old bikes for as long as i can remember.
Didn't look like a bunch of mums and dads racing at the Aussie Vets titles at Coolum a couple of weeks back.

Im 100% with JohnnyO, as I said over 35's would be more the go. Vintage has always been about old blokes on old bikes. The kids will get their day in the sun in years to come. John #185  :-\

I tend to agree TED, if we dont have any interest letting the younger ones ride these events then this will sign a death warrant for its future. I no everyone likes to win a trophy, but the best memories are the close racing you have with anyone within a race. To keep the sport moving forward as this event would, I would love to see all seniors having the fun and enjoyment we get out of it . Long live VMX

This is one event, not a change of rules in general to 'alienate' younger riders. Get it into perspective. Signing a death warrant? Pfft, yeah right.

Sorry 090 to get up your nose. Ill explain were im coming from. I have a good friend who loves VMX. His youngest lad just 16 has a great passion for the old bikes and this is what will continue seeing these bikes on the track way after our health stops us from riding them. Its these lads that share the passion that i like to see at VMX race days. I realize like the nats you get young riders on sponsored bikes etc, if the idea of the event is to just get everyone back together from days gone by, then well and good. Signing a death warrant was a harsh way of explaining my opinion.

This old argument comes up every year or so. Rather than waffle on with my own perspective on young 'uns I'll just agree with Johnny O and add...When we first set up VMX back in 1988 there was no provision for under 30's in the original Sup Regs..we just plain didn't want them. Unfortunately pressure from a number of punters forced us to put an under 30 class in under protest. Twenty three years later I still thing that juniors and under 30's have no place racing bikes they have little connection to. It's very rare to find a young guy who has a passion for old bikes and who isn't just treating VMX as another ride to fill in an otherwise empty weekend. Of course there are exceptions like our Michael but on the whole young blokes gouldn't give a fluck about old "rattlers" as they call 'em.

Try telling Jarrod Beverly he has no passion and no place for racing old bikes. That is a ridiculous comment Mark

VMX is about the machinery, not the participants being over or under 30. How many VMX mags have come out with a front cover feature other than a pic of a motorcycle. Do people go to Classic Dirt , Show and Shine`s and race meetings to look at the bikes or the riders - owners
