Diamond Dons 2012 - Raffle Tickets are on sale!

Hi everyone.  I just thought I'd start a thread to remind everyone that Ron Single of the VMX Whitsunday fame, is again running a raflle to send 2 lucky people to Diamond Don's Riverport National in Jefferson Texas in April 2012.

OK, let me tell you this:  As someone who has had the pleasure of attending this event three times already, I can highly recommend it as a fantastic VMX holiday/adventure.  As this is one of the largest AHRMA national events in the USA VMX scene, it is well attended and is the place to be in April.  The racing is good, the food is great and the people are fabulous.  It's just plain hard to go there and not walk around with a great big smile on your dial.

OK, here's the problem:  Ticket sales in raffle have been very slow (maybe we're all slack?) so PLEASE get your act together and "do yourself a favour" by supporting this raffle and giving yourself a great chance of being able to experience the fun and frivolity of Diamond Dons personally.

You can order tickets at [email protected]. Ticket cost $50 each, but the chance of winning is high due to the limited number that will be sold.

Ron has told me that if they don't reach a minimum number of tickets sold, the raffle will have to be canned - that would be a great pity and mean also that the Whitsunday Club will lose money on the deal, so let's all get together and buy a ticket or three to support the club and also possibly win the best prize in VMX!

<bump>  Just read the article in Moto Retro about this event, it's a corker apparently. The reports in VMX magazine back that up and I am sure we all recall the recent thread regarding the lucky winner of last year's raffle. How good was that?

By the way, when does the raffle close Ajay?

If they sell enough tickets, the raflle will be drawn on November 7.

BUT

They need to sell more tickets very soon or the raffle will be called off!  We don't really want that to happen, so let's get buying those tickets!

The Whitsunday club's Ron Single rang me this morning to tell me that tickets in this years Diamond Dons raffle tickets are selling a little slowly. For those who don't know him, Ron is a genuine, laconic Queenslander whose heart is totally into doing the best for his club and vintage racing in the Whitsunday region of North Queensland. For the second year in a row Ron's gone out on a limb to creat this great raffle to send 2 lucky people to Diamond Don's Riverport National in Jefferson Texas in April 2012. This forum's Husky Pete won last years raffle and he's still raving about the great time Diamond Don and Francine showed him, Ribbo, Shoey and VMX magazines Alistair at the event.

 The raffle is a great chance to get to race and enjoy the legendary hospitality our Texan brothers offer up and see some of the legends of American motocross in action. The Riverport National is one of the highlights of the AHRMA season and it also includes an vinduro and vintage trial. The tickets are $50 each which initially seems a lot of money but when the low number of tickets offered is considered, it's a bloody good deal, well worth the punt. Ron's put his heart and soul into this raffle so you'll be doing the sport, the Whitsunday club and most of all yourself a huge favour.

At what I reckon will be pretty good odds this could well be the cheapest way to get to the USA and return as well as take in all that the 2012 Diamond Don's event has to offer. $50..............Bargain.

I got a call from Ron Single on Friday asking me to try and drum up some more support for the raffle as tickets are selling slowly. I honestly don't know what to do to get folks to support the raffle, I guess i'ts a bit like trying to get racers to pre enter a big event, they need to be continuously prodded until they eventually realise that if they don't enter, they miss out.
Ron's put a lot of effort into this so why not support something that's been designed specifically for vintage racers. As Alison said....things aren't that bad out there and most of us wouldn't hesitate to part with 50 bucks for vintage parts on eBay. I reckon a chance to race and party in the USA for $50 is a bloody good deal. Husky Pete, Shoey, Ribbo and Ajay had a ball last year so here's a chance for you to repeat their experience and support vintage racing at the same time.
