It's a home built CR125 with a CT125 4stroke engine... would be the slowest 125 on the track

i always look at these type of hybrids with a big WHY, all that time & effort to built the bike and you end up with a land crab.

You know how it is sometimes, a piece from here and a piece from there.

Some people actually enjoy simply building bikes. Some also race SL and XL125's and have a fat time doing so, it's all up to the individual ;) Maybe the bike listed is a little expensive but otherwise I reckon it's a pretty neat build. Slip in a Powroll stroker crank and big bore kit, slap on an XR200 4 valve head and stick a decent rider aboard, it still may not win but it certainly wouldn't come home last 8)

Doc your right for some it is about the build  :)
Unfortunatley when builds like this one get posted it does show the division or difference of opinions of forum members .
While some are quick to dismiss it as slow and therefore waste of time, others enjoy the originality of the build. I am firmly in the latter group  :) I like the look of the thing and although its probably no Elsinore beater it would be a bit of fun to ride.

As a racer even if i had a methanol burning tricked up Elsinore the chances of me winning a 125 title at the nats is pretty bloody remote and in racing anything other than 1st is losing anyway ;)

I dont know if its expensive  ??? but it is a cool build, probably if it was a 250cc or bigger it would gain more respect from the masses even though it would still be an also ran in a field of true MX strokers  ;D

Bill, 'if' the frame isn't modified to fit the CT motor then it could well pick up interest from the CR fraternity. Seems a decent job done on the chassis and if the CR motor will bolt straight back in then it's not the waste as some perceive it to be. Pretty sure the CT's only had a 5 speed box and not 6 speed as advertised, the cdi ignition also points to the motor being anything up to an '85 model. The only problem I see with the CT engine is the ultra low and close, almost TL125, ratio 1st and 2nd gears. This may have been corrected already but the gap from 2nd to 3rd was huge. I used to ride a friends '77 CT125 many years ago..actually we would fight over who was going to ride because it was so much fun ;D The $ figure isn't over the top but for a bike that will attract only the select few (in comparison to if it were still a CR) it may take a while for the right buyer to come along. As I said, I think it's neat.

You're right about the CT gear ratios Doc, that's why i thought it'd be slow, the CT is an Ag bike. If it was an SL125 motor bored to a 150 with some work on it and on methanol it would probably be a handy little bike in it's class.

Hell I raced in the all powers 4 stroke class on an XL185 and passed a 500 Husky so I would most likely win on a beast like that :D :D :D

There is just something about slow underpowered bikes/engines that a lot of people like. For example KLX250, XL250, TS185 and they are some of the most popular vintage bikes. I think some people enjoy what a lot of other people would call unacceptable or poor. Building or riding a bike that is a winner out of the crate can be very boring.
Wanted - 1978 TS185 frame or frame&motor. Frame # TS1852-24007 up to TS1852-39022
