Elsinore help needed

I have a frame to fix for a customer, but the head area gussets are pretty well hacked.
It seems to have had the rake changed but I’m not sure which direction. My guess is it’s been increased to be a desert racer.
Can any one supply the dimension in the photo which will give me an idea of how it’s been changed.
It was measured inbetween the mount and the headstem tube.

If any one has an Elsinore 250 frame for sale it’s a fair bet the guy will be interested.
Alternatively if anyone has a frame with the rear end butchered I could use the front end to repair this one.
Even just the gussets would be a bonus.

i have a 2 cr250 frames and a mt frame will check out the distance for you. my race bike has a weld in about the same place may be they just brake there sometimes

Geoff a popular mod to the 250 frame was to lengthen the top tube to bring the rake in because they turned about as good as a bus. I have an old Motocross Action somewhere with the article in it.

Yes John, that was the owners thoughts.
The way they chopped the actual gussets has got me though, don't know why they would have cut it there.
Did the article say anything about having to tweak the gussets to line things up?

 It looks fairly obvious that the steering head angle has been steepend by the oval shape of the hole in the gusset plus the rough looking re-weld at the bottom of the steering head.

to change tt500 frames for flattrack they cut say 25mm from the 2 downtubes and heat the top rail(oil tank) bend the stearing head till the 2 rails meet and then weld it up.is this what has happened to the frame to make the stearing angle to about 26 deg.will get the measuments for you tomorrow

It’s a far cry from what I would call neat, professional work but it seems to be hanging in there so I guess it’s strong enough.
Personally I would go over it but that’s just me.
The owner is keen to keep the same frame No. but he may be interested in doing a deal.

yes - agree with JO - a popular cut and shut on the CR - dont have the article here at work with me but I was always worried about getting it done because of things like the photos you have there Geoff?

geoff the distance on my stock frame is 450 and the mt frame different seat mount is 460

Don Jones was doing a mod similar back in the day to Gary's CR250m & also for customers but not that agricultural the article is on Scott Stegers website
