Well it looks like I'm back
. Actually I didn't fully go away, I just went undercover as Oldschool for a little while. Let me explain.
When I chucked in the Firko forum personna I was genuinely pissed off and had had enough of the agro, name calling and the general lowering of the high standards that this forum had become internationally known for. I felt that some forum members were posting purely to cause trouble and personal piss taking and was unhappy with the way that these posts were being moderated. Rather than fight I opted to resign and concentrate on other facets of my involvement in the sport.
At first it was easy to stay away, there was almost nothing happening to grab me back so with the exception of the occasional lurk, I got on fine wiithout the forum. Then one day, a friend reminded
me of the old 'Oldschool' forum account that a few of us used to use when we didn't want to post under our own tag. It'd laid dormant for three years so for a bit of fun I posted one or two posts to see if anyone would notice it was actually me (or if they cared). A couple of members spotted it but overall nobody noticed. I'd found that going 'cold turkey' was going to be a bit harder than I'd thought
.
Despite my being still a bit blase' towards the forum, I started to notice that there were a lot of people whingeing about how the forum had deteriorated but those same whingers weren't doing anything about the problem they were complaining about. They were sitting back and waiting for the mythical "someone else'' to fix the problem. I even posted something as 'Oldschool' complaining about the Carbon Tax thread. It seemed that I had become a part of the problem....I too was sitting back waiting for some other bugger to fire the 'magic bullet' and bring the forum back to where it used to be, the best source of vintage motocross knowledge on the forum. Over the weekend I decided that I didn't want the forum to sink any lower than where it had got to so I decided to come back and try and do my bit to raise the standard a wee bit.
It's not just down to me though. I'm a 61 year old fat guy who doesn't race any more and is stuck in a pre 1978 time warp. I can do my bit by channeling stuff that I find interesting or useful but what about you guys doing the same? Without mentioning names
I know damn well that there are regulars on this forum who own incredibly interesting bikes, others whose abilities in restoration are beyond belief and others again who have been there and done that on many different levels of the sport.......yet, we hear or see very little from that side of those guys. It's now time to put up or shut up. I've done my 'comeback' piece over on the British section "The Infamous Vern Grayson Cheney Triumph Case"........Over to you
