250 rod

Can any of the Yamaha brains trust tell me if a 250 J (part #498-11651-00 / 5X5-11651-00) rod will fit an RT1 360. The DT1 250 and 360 RT1 share the same rod but I was hoping a later rod is compatible with the earlier big end bearing and gudgeon pin. I have access to a cheap NOS J rod and if it fits I'll save myself a bit of money on the rebuild. Thank you.

Firko - too technical for me but I can remember we had a thread where I was asking for a rod for the 360B YZ.  Without looking back through the lot if I remember rightly an 83-89 250 rod fits straight into the 360B - what I am not very well getting at is if the RT1 is the same as the 360B the info might help?

The It250J/YZ259H runs the same rod but I thought yamaha made a larger bigend bearing for the YZ250J, so the rod is different. And then yamaha changed the bore and stroke on the YZ250K to 68mm X 68mm.

On farther checking the bigend bearing is the same as the YZ250J so it could be the thickness of the rod. If it was me, I would buy the cheap YZ250J rod and if it doesnt fit, on sell it, but unless the rod is thicker in width I think it is the same.
It could be the piston pin and bearing are different. You might have to get the 250J boys to do a measure up.

Hi there. The 83/89 yz rod kit is the one for 360s, model code 24y, yz250k.
It goes straight in. 130mm centers, 25 diam. pin.
Readily available aftermarket ie HotRods etc.
YZj/5x5 rod kit is 125mm centers, 25mm pin. Could use it if you want the short rod.

i used a pro-x rod kit in my RT1 and it's the same as a yz250from around the "J" model years. if in doubt, the parts guy at moorooka yamaha in brisbane knows all about em, and those little clutch worm gear thingies, and, just bloody well heaps about old yammies.

used one oin ebay going for $335 last i looked.

and what is with that the guy has busted up a perfectly good matchng numbers YZ250A and is selling it in bits ? WTF.  can one of you accountants out there check out "all terrains" sold items on the 250A and add it up, im curious if it was worth his wild selling it in bits.  id say he 's got sale up at over $3k so far, along way short of the 5-6K i would have though he would have got as a complete unit.

This is an interesting thread - I never realised that the 250 and 360 shared the same rod length (nor that the rod served so many models).

Whats the go - the pin must have been moved further out on the radius of the crank.

Does the 360 and 400 share the same crank?
