Dirt track at Broadford
« on: June 29, 2011, 10:06:43 pm »
I was at a club meeting last night and the topic of Dirt track was talked about. It seems to be a little known sport here in Victoria.
I can highly recomened it as a great day out for the family. Our club runs regular race and practice days at Broadford and I can recomened a practice day to give it a go. It is a very relaxed atmosphere. All you need to do is use a Trials tyre on the rear of seniors (over 100cc 2strokes or 150cc 4strokes) or in the case of a 19" rear a speedway rear tyre. We are trying to get a stock of tyres so people can come and ride and try without having to purchase a tyre. We may even have a fitting service avalable!
If you are interested hope onto www.theharleyclubofvictoria.com.au and follow the website for more details.
I hope to see a few more new face at the next meeting.
Nick..

I raced there in the late 80's. They hosted the nationals. Remember it well. I ended up over the fence after a practice crash. It was very loose from memory.I have some photos of the 1000cc sidecar final somewhere! We got 3rd

Me too. back then late 80's early 90's i think Preston MCC run it with the great Hughie Hore. i had some great runs up there and they did indeed run the nationals there in 1991 i think ( i have a dvd of the event i took with my camera) raced against  Mike "Speed" Burrows and others. top meeting run at the end of Every Month back in that time.

Gettinold, i reckon we may have raced together if you rode solo, i did race one meeting on Darren Robertson's "Ray Fisher" prepared Methanol fuelled KX500 Sidecar as a swinger when my bike siezed in practice around 1992-3 i think. do you want a copy of that Nationals DVD when i get time ( it's only a few races, but it does have Chris Watson & Len Norris riding)
Long time Honda Fan, but all bike nut in general, Big Bore 2 stroke fan.    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJoKP6MawYI

+1 from me , Bloody good day out me and young fella have a crack at every oppotunity we get.

Dont need any flash gear with bells and whistles, just turn up with ya old banger and give it
the berries  ;)

As Nick said, family day out , Kids get plenty of track time whilst learning the art of riding
and bike control in a controlled enviroment with Medical back up .

At a first class Track with great facilities. ;)
Good onya Nick get it out there, if ya havent had a go do yourself a favour  ;D

Don't forget this Sunday. Practice day at Broadford. Bring your family for a great day at the dirttrack. Call the Broadford complex on 03 5784 4163 to make sure that the weather hasn't canceled the fun before you come.

Maybe, Broadford could put their hands up to host the Classic Titles?
My own personal peference would be Nepean, closely followed by Canberra.
But, in order to spread the word, I'd support VIC.

Steve, that could only be a good thing for the sport.
You'll have some competition though.
Wherever it goes I'm sure it will be well supported, I can feel that the overall interest in Dirt Track is getting back to where it belongs.

Thanks to the club for letting it run,it was very wet but it was enough to convince me to sell a bike to build a dirt tracker. Got an Xl500s that might do.

thanks again.
