Top Five Puch

The Puch Harry Everts Replica has got to be on most people's Top 5 "Wish I Owned One" list.  Interesting technology, world beating performance and low-low production numbers.  This one was on display at last year's Brad Lackey Nor Cal Classic.

If it was mine I would rip the piston port carb off and run the disc only ;D

They definately are high on the list of the coolest and most collectible vintage mx bikes. :)

Has an amazing 50 hp similar to a modern 250 why would you fork with it? ....

That would only be 50 shetland ponies my daughter rides at the show, no horses unfortunately.

The bike won the '75 World 250 title against much bigger budget Jap and Euro brands.. i think the Puch factory got it right ;)

I could be wrong but I imagine you haven't ridden one (I haven't even seen one) but they didn't win the world champs because they were underpowered - bear in mind the bikes (and riders) it beat in 1975.

Jody Weisel rode one;
"The 1976 Puch MC250 was called the Harry Everts Replica. Puch only sold about 100 of the twin-carb bikes (one carb was piston port, while the other fed a rotary valve). I loved the Puch. It was incredibly fast in a straight line. It should have been the best-selling bike of all time, because it was that far ahead of its time".

Bikes go fast because of the rider. VMX No14 quote 43HP @ 8200 which is crank figure makes about 38HP at the wheel, while good 50HP at the wheel it ain't.

75 model bike putting out close to 40 HP is fabulous, just from an engineering point you cant get much above that with the tolerances of an air cooled engine, a air cooled twin cylinder TZ GP bike struggled to get much over 40 without becoming a hand grenade.
Current bikes. KTM MC 250 77 Husky CR 360 77, Husky 82 420 Auto Bitsa XR 200 project. Dont need a pickle just need to ride my motorcickle

It's never been about horsepower numbers in motocross.. the type of power and the suspension is more important.

The last of the air cooled Yamaha twins TD3(73) had 49HP(crank), deto problems were traced to the ignition(and probably the cylinder head).

I doubt with a 70 X 64mm bore and stroke you would get 40HP with real world jetting.Motorcycle racing has always been about the connection between the throttle and the rear wheel. If you get a direct linerar relationship that is perfect for all disciplines.I always stive for 1% more throttle = 1% torque to the wheel
