Vinduro rules/regs
« on: February 15, 2008, 10:17:58 pm »
Was wondering if anyone was familiar with the rules/regs used for the Aussie Vinduro last year (did they have any??) and how they compare to any OS?

What year bikes (pre 1985???), classes (if any??) and what the regs are/were re the headlight and tail light (must they work? do you need a working rear stop light etc.....)

MR Drakeford please over to you :) I am not sure it was run with proper Enduro rules and regs with standard Enduro type classes.

I may not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.

I'm not Mr Drakeford (obviously), but as an entrant I can tell you that bikes were limited to Pre '85 trail/enduro models, and had to have a headlight and tail light. I can also confirm that it was an immense amount of fun. I can't remember any of the other rules & regulations, and don't know how they compare to overseas.

As it wasn't a race & more of a ride day their wasn't any real rules as such. Everthing was quite flexible, but they were supposed to be Enduro/Trail bikes.

What Tex said.
There were some 85 model bikes there, but whether they were just having a blind eye turned, or were specifically allowed, I don't know (or care!:) ).

The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

Oh hell, sorry guys,
I'm a bit slack at this response business, I must get more involved. Anyway, we didn't have any rules in place, the only criteria was that the bikes be pre '85 - however we allowed a few pre'90 too.
Look, I don't intend 'making a rod for my own back' as I did with VMX, I just want to see the old enduro iron not getting cut up into VMX machinery anymore! Purpose built enduro motorcycles are a user friendly way to spend time in the sadle. When I was getting my M-word 400 GS rebuilt at Stackers, Paul wanted to know how hard I wanted it to run? He was a bit surprised I wanted it left stock. I'm just running it in and I can say it has plenty for me!
Back to the rules; if we (...and I mean you reading this - you're obviously interested) want to reward originality we could set up classes for stockers, ones for converted MX'ers, and the usual dates if you wish. However, they should be a rough guide only as I am just so stoked to see the wide range of old clunkers come out of the woodwork. These events are designed to maximise everyones fun - if you want to race your mates, great; trickle around, OK, do a lap and talk, fine, swap bikes, do it!
(...now, I WILL check this site tomorrow!)
Drakie.

If we're not racing, then classes won't do anything for us, will they?

I liked prizes being given away via a raffle, because (IMO) it fitted well into the social, non-competitive vibe of the day.

Adding formalised classes implies there will be some sort of awards/recognition.
The good thing about telling the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.

It early days for Vinduro so keep it simple and keep it social.

As numbers grow  ::) it may then evolve and gel into something different.

My 2 cents worth  8) ;D.

Personally I feel that this event is perfect as it is. That is, trail & enduro bikes only, built before 1985. I agree with Nathan that raffling the prizes best suited the vibe of the day. Anyone who wants to race their mates or the clock can do so, otherwise just ride and have fun. So, what are the dates for 2008?!  ;D

Thanks for the input guys, I felt pretty happy with the format, and it's good to see it went down well. If anyone wants to get competitive we could keep times for comparisons sake-but it would be totally informal. We just want to spread the love! D.
