OK so i thought i read somewhere the little hole section on the trigger of the pulsar on the Yamaha stator was fixed, as in you had this little tool that look like a mini spanner and it clicked into the slot.

Which is fine but i have looked at 4 this week and there all in a slightly differant position, and the pulsar arms seem to be on a movable arm so it must move postion but why ?

what position is this little indicator supposed to be in, and if you move it what does it achive ?  and why woudl you do so ??

the stator is adjustable to the rotor so why would you move this thing ?

Kerry,
It's for the fine adjustment of the pulse coil for ignition timing. The little slot is for a screwdriver and you use it to move the pulse coil and line up the two marks when the piston is in the correct position, based on your dial indicator reading,
Pete.

Moving the stator plate would do the same thing. I can onlt think the stator could be used over a range of capacities and the keyway position, magnet position and pick up used to alter timing without redesigning the stator.

OK so are you guys saying so long as i set up in my before top dead postion then line up the rotor to the stator mark normally used -that little slot wont come into play ?

I can only see it come into play if you run out of stator turn but im not sure how that can happen if the rotor is on the original keyway.   It must be there for a reason ???

and if im right and my memory is of seeing a yamaha tool in the little shape ( mini spanner like thing) clipped in, then its correct postion shoul be as per the top photo ???

Im just concerned i dont know what it is and if go moving the other ones that are in odd postions and then end up creating some weird result ??

What about using a timing light would that not answer all your questions?

ok,proper non smartarse reply ::),the pulse coil is moveable because, for setting timing on MX models that have external flywheels, where stator plate set screws cannot be accessed because of flywheel shrouding, adjustments are made through the window slots on flywheel face, capeech, :P

Sounds like a very haphazard way of adjusting timing ???
Time to shout yourself a TIMING LIGHT then Freaky  ;)

lozza, when you get the timing light thing happening on a MX175A,ya still gotta stick the screwdriver through the flywheel windows to alter the pulse coils positioning plate to obtain correct alignment of timing marks,(that is if it dosen't agree with strobe results), personally i preferr the dial guage method thanks ;), :P

I always have dial gauged all mine.

I just want to know what the little forker does.  i mean it must be there for a reason.............  if its the windo adjust ment makes sence

i just want to line up the little thing, and make it look right.    Then i can re-time it IF it makes a diffrance.......     :P

So based on that i ll line it up so it looks like the others.  then time it again.   sweet. ( im a compulsive OCD )
