E-bay 414
« on: February 15, 2008, 09:32:25 am »
It doesn't add up to me. There were no 78 414's. The forks look 35 mm. I think he's also hinting that it's a 360 when he says he has a spare  360 piston for it. The side covers are after-market. It's a VF tank on it (80).
The front plate looks the same as Simmo's bike (He won Viper a few years ago). He also had the same type of seat.
I doubt it's a real 414. If it is Simmo's old bike I'd say it'd be quick. Probably a good bike but I wouldn't pay 4G for a hybrid.....

So other people know what we are talking about...

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/MONTESA-78-CAPPRA-414-VE-CLASSIC_W0QQitemZ280200937146QQihZ018QQcategoryZ102690QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

After market mud gaurds as well arn't they?

That seat looks inappropriate to me :o  and I would change it if it was mine  ;)

The 360 question could be answered with an email I guess  ::).

BALLARAT!!! I do know this bike! It is a VB done up. They tried to flog it to me last year when I was chasing a VE. It isn't Simmo's bike at all. The guy had it at CD4 last year. The son's selling it on behalf of his old man who's deaf. It's a pile of shit. I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!!

Speaking of Simmo, what ever happened to Dave Simpson and his trick Montys? I did a piece on them for Dirt Action a few years ago. He, and the bikes were pretty quick.

The only thing he has left is an original VB 360 front plate and that's about it. Sold everything else off and put on an extra 40 kg's. Doesn't have anything to do with it anymore.........

That's a shame. He can really ride and those VB hybrid things really flew. I had a ride on his main 360 at Broadford and was pleasantly surprised just how quick it was. The last I heard was a few years ago when he stopped riding the Montesas and started riding Andrew Georges RM Suzukis. Simmo had a mate with a semi trailer who also had a swag of Montys. Has he dropped off the planet as well? At ythe time they were so into their Montys anyone would have believed that they were in the sport for the long haul.

Yeah. He told me he did end up riding RM's and was doing ok but I think the drive had pretty much gone out of him by then. I think some other issues were taking his time up and he just dropped the lot. A real shame!
The other guy ended up taking his opperation to the Gold Coast. They were adverting in VMX as a supplier of Monty bits. When I contacted them about some, I was told in no uncertain terms that they had bigger fish to fry than mucking about with old bike bits. When  inquired if I could relieve them of this unpleasentness I was told that they'd get in touch.
Never heard anything back.
Hate to think of all those bits collecting dust when they could be realising someones dream......

I see Paul occasionally at the local club days. His trucks keep him too busy to do much of anything according to him. He says he battles to even get a ride in . His parts would be collecting dust for sure.

That would be the guy who advertised in VMX and other places as Montesa World Spares or such. Contacted him/them several times for no reply ::).

This idiot with the wanna-be 414 just sent me an E-mail saying that a mate of his told him it is exactly as the bike should be. These guys are really pissed that they've been caught out trying to take someone for a prat.
It truely is a bucket. it is NOT a VE/VF or any other sort of 414. It is a very sad hybrid. If they left it as a VB it would be worth far more than what it is at the moment.
I'll be interested to see what they relist it as......
